Opening crawl[]

THE OLD REPUBLIC
VOL. 2
With the crusading Mandalorians approaching the sector
of space occupied by the Arkanians and their vast scientific
resources, the charismatic Lord Adasca seeks to secure -
and perhaps improve - his people's place in the galaxy by
offering a new super-weapon to the highest bidder.

Aboard the ''Arkanian Legacy'', Adasca sends invitations
to potential buyers, including one to Republic Admiral
Karath, who has in his custody Zayne Carrick - a fugitive
Padawan falsely accused by his former Masters of killing
his fellow Jedi students on the Outer Rim border world of
Taris. Also held captive by Karath are Adasca's former
employee Gorman Vandrayk - also known as Zayne's friend
Camper - and Camper's protector, the mysterious warrior
Jarael.

The Jedi Knights reject official involvement in the
Republic's war with Mandalore, but this distraction has
allowed the Jedi Masters stationed on Taris to form a
secret cabal known as the Covenant, whose sole purpose is
to prevent the return of the Jedi's greatest enemies, the
evil Sith. Their Jedi visions led them to believe Zayne is the
one most likely to bring about the return of the Sith.

Zayne's thoughts have never strayed from the world he left
behind - or from the friend he left there, the con-artist
Gryph, now believed to be dead....
