- "Gold Squadron, let's go create a diversion."
- ―Saesee Tiin at the Battle of Boz Pity
Gold Squadron, also called Gold Group or Gold Team, was a Republic starfighter squadron active during the Clone Wars. During the early stages of the conflict, Gold Squadron's clone pilots flew V-19 Torrent starfighters, while its Jedi piloted Delta-7 and Delta-7B Aethersprite-class light interceptors. Later in the war, Gold Squadron pilots flew Eta-2 Actis-class interceptors and Aggressive ReConnaissance-170 starfighters.
History[]
- "A gold droid for Gold leader of Gold Squadron."
- ―Ahsoka Tano, regarding Anakin Skywalker and R3-S6
Stationed aboard the Venator-class Star Destroyer Resolute under the command of Gold Leader Anakin Skywalker, Gold Squadron lured Separatist forces led by General Grievous into a trap set in an asteroid field over the planet Bothawui during the Clone Wars. While the Jedi General ordered his squadron of clone V-19 Torrent starfighter pilots to break off, Skywalker pursued the fleeing Grievous, taking damage to his Delta-7B Aethersprite-class light interceptor and losing the astromech droid R2-D2 in the process. Upon presenting him with a replacement, the gold-colored R3-S6, Anakin's Padawan Ahsoka Tano commented that it was only appropriate for Skywalker, as Gold Leader of Gold Squadron, to possess a golden droid.[1]
A group of Jedi Delta-7 Aethersprite-class light interceptors, known as Gold Group or Gold Team, arrived from hyperspace at Coruscant to take part in the defense of the Galactic Senate. On the orders of Jedi Grand Master Yoda, they launched an attack run on the Separatist dreadnought Subjugator, successfully bringing down its shields.[3]
During the latter stages of the Clone Wars, Gold Squadron was outfitted with Eta-2 Actis-class interceptors and Aggressive ReConnaissance-170 starfighters, and commanded by Jedi Master Saesee Tiin. During the Battle of Boz Pity, Tiin led Gold Squadron out of Intervention's hangar and into combat against a Providence-class cruiser above Boz Pity, in a diversionary tactic that gave Obi-Wan Kenobi's strike team time to land on the planet and track down Asajj Ventress.[2]
