Gray Secant

The Gray Secant was an ancient Gree starship that was launched by the Gree thousands of years before the Galactic War between the Galactic Republic and the Sith Empire with the purpose of studying and exploring the farthest reaches of the galaxy. However, it reappeared over the planet Ilum in 3639 BBY, drawing the attention of both the Gree and the two galactic superpowers as they worked to uncover the vessel's secrets.

Characteristics[]

A strangely shaped vessel fashioned from a dark gray metal, the Gray Secant featured a central ring on the bottom with a glowing and constantly shifting orange and black sphere in the center. Above that ring was a central tower with four sections branching off at even intervals from the top, and the sections curved downwards with two of them ending just above the lower ring and the other two ending at the same level as the ring.[2] On account of the vessel's ancient construction, it was virtually invisible to standard sensor technology[3] as of 3639 BBY,[4] and its technology dwarfed that of the rest of the galaxy by that time.[3]

History[]

First created by the Gree species thousands of years before the Galactic War between the Galactic Republic and the Sith Empire, the Gray Secant—as the ship became known to the Gree[2] by 3639 BBY[4]—was dispatched to explore and study the far reaches of the galaxy as an automated vessel. The vessel jumped from star system to star system for centuries, studying each of the planets and species it encountered. When the vessel finally came back into contact with the Gree around 3639 BBY, it became an icon of almost religious significance to its creators, who had lost much of their technological advances and techniques.[2] When it reappeared over Ilum, it drew the attention of the Gree and both the Republic and the Empire, and the nature of the ongoing Battle of Ilum changed as both sides attempted to win favor with the Gree and unlock the ship's secrets.[3]

Behind the scenes[]

The Gray Secant was first mentioned in an early press release for Star Wars: The Old Republic Game Update 1.7: Return of the Gree on January 15, 2013. The ship is part of the new Galactic Reputation system,[1] and a Developer Blog on Game Update 1.7 released on February 11 further expanded on the ship's history and gave context on the in-game "Relics of the Gree" event that ran from February 12 through February 26.[2] The Game Update was released the next day as the event started, and the update included a Codex entry for the vessel that gave additional information on the ship.[3]
