"Master Katarn has informed me that he is continuing his investigation of Rosh Penin's disappearance near Nar Kreeta and can assist you on this mission."
Jedi Praxeum protocol droid — (audio) Listen (file info)[2]

The Nar Kreeta system was a star system within the Hutt Space region of the galaxy. It contained the planet Nar Kreeta, a Hutt colony and major trade world, and was intersected by the Pabol Kreeta and Pabol Sleheyron hyperlanes. During the Disciples of Ragnos crisis, the local Hutt crime lord based on Nar Kreeta kidnapped members of the Mining Guild sent to negotiate a treaty with him, prompting a New Jedi Order rescue mission successfully undertaken by Jedi Jaden Korr and Jedi Master Kyle Katarn. The system was one of many that fell to the Yuuzhan Vong, with the main planet of Nar Kreeta being Vongformed by the extra-galactic invaders, until its reconstruction by the Hutts after the Yuuzhan Vong campaign.

The Nar Kreeta system was a star system located on the edge of Hutt Space, a galactic region between the Mid and Outer Rim Territories historically dominated by the Hutt species. The system was notable for its main planet, Nar Kreeta, which was a Hutt colony and a major trade world. It was also crossed by at least two trade routes: the Pabol Kreeta, which linked Nar Kreeta to Nar Bo Sholla within the eponymous system, and the Pabol Sleheyron, whose endpoints were the worlds Formos and Randon.[4]

History[]

"We have received word from a mining guild on Nar Kreeta that a number of elders are held captive by the local Hutt crimelord. These elders went to negotiate a treaty with the Hutt, but never returned. The crimelord claims no one ever came to see him."
Jedi Praxeum records[2]

The territory surrounding the Nar Kreeta system came under the control of the Hutt Empire as early as the year 22,000 BBY and was considered well-explored by 8000 BBY.[4]

During the early years of the New Republic, the Mining Guild had control of the planet Nar Kreeta, although Hutt crime lords dominated the underworld.[6] The Mining Guild's relations with the Hutts were poor. Upon trying to negotiate a treaty with a local Hutt crime lord, sixteen Guild elder delegates went missing. The Guild suspected a Hutt connection, but the suspect denied that anyone had come to see him.[2]

The New Jedi Order—which, at the time, had Jedi Master Kyle Katarn already in the system's area investigating the disappearance of his pupil, Rosh Penin, amidst the short-lived conflict with the Disciples of Ragnos cult—picked up the distress signal from the Guild and dispatched Jedi Jaden Korr to learn the truth.[2] At the time, the Hutts maintained a wary coexistence with the New Republic.[4]

Nar Kreeta Vongd

During the Yuuzhan Vong War, the Nar Kreeta system was one of many that fell to the invaders.

Korr covertly entered the Hutt's stronghold and soon rescued all sixteen of the captives, escaping the complex with the elders in Katarn's light courier, the Raven's Claw. Over the course of his investigation in the Nar Kreeta system, Katarn eventually found that Penin had been captured by the Disciples of Ragnos and that they had been in the region, although he could not know for certain where exactly they had taken Penin next.[2]

Sometime around 25 and 26 ABY, during the Yuuzhan Vong War, the Nar Kreeta system, like great portions of Hutt Space, fell to the extra-galactic invaders' empire, which heavily Vongformed Nar Kreeta. The attack on the system was a part of the Vong incursion in Hutt territories, and was preceded by an assault on the Nimban system and followed by an battle on the Nar Bo Sholla system. After the invasion, which did not last more than a decade for some territories, the Hutts focused on reconstructing the planets affected by the Yuuzhan Vong campaign.[4]

Inhabitants[]

Although Hutts were the original settlers of Nar Kreeta and Hutt Space as a whole,[4] other species could also occasionally be found in the system, like Chiss, Gran, Humans, Rodians, Trandoshans, Weequays,[2] and Yuuzhan Vong.[4] Consequently, languages as varied as Huttese, Galactic Basic Standard, Gran, Rodese, Dosh, Sriluurian,[2] and Yuuzhan Vong[4][5] were spoken in the system at various times. On Nar Kreeta, Aurebesh and a Huttese script could be seen in certain locations, in the form of signs and posters.[2] By 25 ABY, the system boasted a population of anything from one to ten billion individuals.[4]

Nar Kreeta

Nar Kreeta was a Hutt colony and major trade world at the nexus of the Pabol Kreeta and in the Pabol Sleheyron.[4] The planet possessed a rocky and mountainous landscape[2] prior to its Vongforming,[4] where some inhabited settlements were built underground.[2] During the early years of the New Republic, the Mining Guild controlled the planet, although Hutt crime lords dominated the underworld.[6] It was terraformed by the Yuuzhan Vong upon their invasion in Hutt Space, though, after they were defeated, the Hutts concentrated efforts on reconstructing the worlds devastated by the invaders.[4]

Behind the scenes[]

The Nar Kreeta system was first mentioned in The Essential Atlas, a third-generation Essential Guide written by Jason Fry and Daniel Wallace, and published in August 2009. The book placed the system in Hutt Space, at coordinates S-10.[4]

Fry has stated that "planets not assigned a system in [a] published source can be assumed to reside in [the] system of [the] same name."[3] This article assumes the same applies for Nar Kreeta, a planet first introduced in the 2003 Raven Software video game Star Wars: Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy, the last installment of the Dark Forces saga.[2]
