Peace over Anger
Honor over Hate
Strength over Fear

For generations, the firstborn children of the rulers of the planet Rutan and the moon Senali have been exchanged at the age of seven. This was meant to promote peace and understanding between the societies. Now it has led them to the brink of war.

Leed, the heir to the Rutan throne, does not want to return to his home planet. His father will stop at nothing to get him back. Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi must prevent this rift from turning to bloodshed.

It is their hardest challenge yet.

Plot summary[]

Rutan long ruled over its moon Senali before the Senali managed to defeat them and drove them off their world. Afterwards, the two made peace, and it was agreed that the rulers would send their eldest children to the other world at the age of seven and they would stay there until they turned sixteen.

Prince Leed, however, refuses to return to Rutan. His father King Frane believes he was brainwashed or threatened, and he will go to war unless his son is returned. Obi-Wan Kenobi and Qui-Gon Jinn go to Senali with Leed's brother Taroon where they learn Leed has come to love his foster family and genuinely does not want to leave.

Leed agrees to return to Rutan and speak with his father, but he is kidnapped by a rogue group of Senali called the Ghost clan before he can. Taroon returns to Rutan while Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon free Leed with help from his foster sister Drenna. The four of them go to Rutan to stop the war.

Leed tries to convince Frane to make Taroon his heir, but he fails and Frane threatens to keep Yaana, the ten-year-old daughter of Meenon, in prison until he falls in line. Obi-Wan, Qui-Gon, Leed, and Drenna break Yaana out of prison so Frane has nothing to bargain with.

Frane cuts them off at the landing platform. Leed agrees to stay if Yaana is sent home, and Drenna takes her place as the Senali hostage.

Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon, meanwhile, realize the Ghost clan were actually Rutanians sent by Taroon, who wants to be king. They confront him, and he reveals he also planned an attack on the royal kennels. They foil the attack, and Taroon confesses to his father. Impressed, Frane names him his heir and Leed the ambassador between their worlds.
