Obi-Wan Kenobi[4]

The Lok Revenants, known as the Lok Resistance during their exile from Lok, were a group of pirates operating out of the Karthakk system before, during and after the Clone Wars and were led by the pirate captain Nym.

History[]

Old Republic era[]

"Nym is the most feared pirate in the Maramere system. He routed the Trade Federation from Lok and its neighboring planets right around the start of the Clone Wars, and he's maintained complete control over the spacelanes in this region ever since."
Vana Sage[5]

The Lok Revenants were loyal to Nym, and aided the pirate captain on many raids against the Trade Federation. They defended Nym's Base on Lok from a large invasion force, and though eventually overwhelmed, the Revenants regrouped and continued the fight. The Federation was struck a big blow at the Invasion of Naboo,[1] but still remained a sizable presence in the Karthakk system. For the next ten years, the Revenants waged war with the Federation.[6]

It was not until Jedi Master Adi Gallia intervened that the tide began to turn. By now, the Revenants were joined by Sol Sixxa and the Mere Resistance, and launched an assault against the heavily defended factory world of Nod Kartha. They later participated in the battle over Geonosis, helping to defeat Captain Cavik Toth and his Hex fleet. Ultimately, Nym's forces recovered their base on Lok, and Nym remained in contact with Master Gallia.[6]

Rise of the Empire[]

"There's nobody with more power on Lok. And except for Jabba the Hutt, he's probably the most powerful alien in the Outer Rim."

After the end of the Clone Wars and the defeat of the Trade Federation, the Lok Revenants definitively assumed control of Lok and Nym then shared his time between ruling the planet and leading his criminal activities.[7] In the following years, Nym's old base was turned into a palace while a small city known as Nym's Stronghold was built nearby. Defended by the Lok Revenants, the city became the major spaceport on Lok and access to the planet was controlled by an orbital space station.[3] On the other hand, the Lok Revenants pursued their pirate and criminal activities beyond the Karthakk system, frequently attacking ships along the Corellian Trade Spine.[8] During one of these raids, taking place in the Maramere system, the pirates attacked the Alderaanian corvette Tantive IV, forcing the droids C-3PO and R2-D2 to flee the ship using an escape pod. The raid was therefore directly responsible for the droids being separated from the Alderaanian royal family and involved in many adventures throughout the galaxy.[9]

Sometime after the Declaration of a New Order, the planet Lok fell under the control of the Galactic Empire. The Empire built a small base on Lok and deployed a garrison on the planet. However, despite his disdain for the Empire, Nym successfully arranged an understanding with General Otto, the Imperial officer in charge of the planet. As both parties agreed with not interfering with the affairs of the other, the cohabitation between the Lok Revenants and the Empire was peaceful. Hence, Nym remained the effective ruler of the planet.[7]

Galactic Civil War[]

The situation became more complicated during the Galactic Civil War. The Revenants considered themselves neutral in the conflict but Nym was a Rebel Alliance sympathizer. While the Revenants were not challenged by General Otto on Lok,[7] the organization was targeted by other Imperial units, in particular from the Imperial Navy. After the Battle of Yavin, the operation of the Revenants in the Karthakk system were severely crippled by Commander Oberhaur's Storm Squadron.[11] A short time later, Officer Haymir Rendundi of the Imperial special squadron Black Epsilon triggered a war between the Lok Revenants and the Hutts in order to weaken the support of Nym to the Rebellion. This conflict began after an Imperial pilot hijacked a Hutt starship and used it to attack Revenant vessels in the Yavin system.[12] In response, Nym supported the operations of Lady Viopa and Rebel pilots of Havoc Squadron in the Karthakk system.[13] Furthermore, the Lok Revenants attempted to expand their activities beyond the Karthakk system. During that time, the Revenant Nirame Sakute received help from Talon Karrde's Smuggler Alliance to assist Nym's operations in the Dathomir system.[14]

Nym and the Revenants also targeted directly Imperial interests during the Galactic Civil War. In 1 ABY,[15] the Lok Revenants raided an Imperial mine on Lok where the release of an unknown toxic gas had made the miners become completely crazy and very hostile. The criminals collected a sample of the gas from the mine filtration system in order to study it and use it as a weapon if possible.[16] Later, the Revenants attacked a secret Imperial research facility on Lok to steal experimental weapons developed there such as Imperial Military Grade Grenade Casing Units.[17] These attacks likely did not affect the deal between Nym and General Otto since the existence of the mining and research facilities had been kept hidden to Otto by Imperial authorities.[18]

During the Galactic Civil War, the Lok Revenants also had trouble with a rival criminal organization, the Sulfur Lake Pirates. Known as the most bloodthirsty and least-intelligent pirates on Lok, they contested the position of the Nym as the ruler of Lok and the Karthakk system. Although they were clearly weaker than the Revenants, they aspired to overthrow Nym. For years, Nym had always tried to minimize the hostility between the two groups as much as possible in order to avoid a bloody and useless war on Lok.[5] However, in 1 ABY,[15] the Lok Revenants assaulted the hideout of the Sulfur Lake Pirates to retrieve the valuable memory module of an Imperial droid. Thanks to the help of Choster, the engineer who had set up the defenses of the base for the pirates before they betrayed him, Vana Sage's henchmen infiltrated the hideout. They eventually found the memory module they were looking for but they killed numerous pirates during the mission.[19] After the attack on the Sulfur Lake Pirate Hideout, the tensions between the two criminal groups turned to open war. Finally, Nym grew weary of the situation and proposed a truce to the Sulfur Lake Pirates. A meeting was arranged in Kimogila Town, an abandoned city in the deserts of Lok. Nevertheless, not long before the meeting took place, the pirates captured Sheeli, the sister of the engineer Choster. When the meeting began, the Sulfur Lake emissary Cale Serasai revealed that they had captured Sheeli and ordered the Revenants to hand over Choster. As they refused, many Sulfur Lake Pirates hidden in the ruins of Kimogila Town then suddenly attacked Nym's ambassadors. Although the Revenant spacers were outnumbered, they successfully defended themselves and killed all the pirates. The only survivor was Cale Serasai, who begged to be spared and agreed to release Sheeli in exchange for his life.[20] After this humiliation, Nym thought that the Sulfur Lake Pirates would try to strike back soon. A short time later, Nym planned to receive an envoy of politicians from Tatooine in his palace on Lok. Yet, the pirates hijacked the shuttle of the Tatooinan and landed it in the courtyard of Nym's palace. As Nym and other leaders of the Lok Revenants arrived to greet the envoys, the pirates unexpectedly emerged from the shuttle and attacked the Revenants in the palace. Finally, Nym, Kole, Vana Sage, Jinkins and other Lok Revenants eliminated every Sulfur Lake Pirates.[21]

Beyond the Sulfur Lake Pirates, the Lok Revenants were also enemies of other pirates groups such as the Blood Razors and the Canyon Corsairs.[22] On the other hand, Nym formed an alliance with the Detritus Satellites, a group of independent Vulture-class droids, in the Dantooine system.[23]

Members[]

"The pay? You are indeed my type of pirate-spacer-garbage. The pay is okay. Occasionally when you don't make me mad it will be better. Still interested?"
"I very much want to be a Lok Revenant, sir!"
―Nym and a spacer[24]

The Lok Revenants were founded and commanded by the Feeorin pirate captain and warlord Nym.[2] His most loyal lieutenants were the Bith Jinkins, the Chadra-Fan Kole and the Human female Vana Sage. Kole and Jinkins were the most ancient members of the organization, the former served as Nym's first mate and the latter worked as chief engineer. Vana Sage joined the Revenants by the time of the Invasion of Naboo and later became Nym's head of security. Three decades later Kole, Jinkins and Vana Sage still worked for Nym at the height of the Galactic Civil War.[5][25][26]

Beyond Nym's most trusted lieutenants, membership among the Revenants was in a constant state of flux.[7] During the Galactic Civil War, four important lieutenants of the organizations were Mako Ghast, Rek Thelcar, Stuvany Inglen and Grenz Zittoun.[10][27][28][29] Other Lok Revenants included the engineer Phor Cl-lan,[30] the pilot trainer Nirame Sakute[14] the brawling master Rydel Delan,[31] and Ran Machado.[32] Vors d'Oesti commanded Nym's operations in the Dantooine system.[23]

The Revenants were also allied with the Reeven Clan, a Rodian clan led by Jannik the White, since before the Clone Wars.[33] During the Galactic Civil War, two members of the clan, quartermaster Ralia and field agent Rei Reeven, had joined the Revenants on Lok.[34]

Military[]

"A direct assault on Nym will have the desired effect but could also be costly for us as well. That is just the sort of advantage that the Rebels are waiting for."
Haymir Rendundi, to an Imperial pilot[12]

The Lok Revenants used various types of starships and vehicles. In the Old Republic era, they made use of G-400 starfighters, Scurrg H-6 prototype bombers (such as Nym's Havoc), Sigil and Velker fighters, Freefall-class bombers (like Jinkins' Freefall), and Revenant Speeders. In addition, Vana Sage piloted an unique starship named Guardian Mantis.[1]

During the Galactic Civil War, the Revenants invested in more modern vessels such as Z-95-AF4 Headhunters, M3-A Scyk fighters, T-65 X-wing starfighters, G1-M4-C Dunelizard fighters, BTL-S3 Y-wing starfighters, M12-L Kimogila heavy fighters,[35] YT-1300 light freighters, such as the Happy Lady,[36] X4 Gunships, including the Karthakk Queen,[37] and HC-556 Light Cruisers.[38]

  15. 15.0 15.1 According to its opening crawl, Star Wars Galaxies was set sometime after Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope. The only precise time indication in the game was given by the character Ruwan Tokai, who referenced the destruction of the Death Star at the Battle of Yavin as occurring one year earlier, placing the game sometime around 1 ABY. Later, multiple elements confirmed the placement of the game storyline in 1 ABY. First, The Essential Reader's Companion established that the tie-in novel Star Wars Galaxies: The Ruins of Dantooine took place in 1 ABY. Furthermore, the game expansion Star Wars Galaxies: Rage of the Wookiees was set during the Blockade of Kashyyyk, one year after the Battle of Yavin according to The Star Wars Holiday Special. Additionally, the main scenario of The Nightsister's Revenge from the Star Wars Galaxies Trading Card Game was set over a year before the Battle of Hoth (3 ABY), so around 1.5 ABY. Finally, the reference book Strongholds of Resistance placed the events of Star Wars Galaxies's Chapter 9: "The Fury of Exar Kun" one year after the Battle of Yavin. Of note, Galaxies's Chapter 11: "The Battle of Echo Base" introduced the Battle of Hoth in the game. However, the developers were quite clear that this was only intended to be a completely isolated "Star Wars Moment" without any effect on continuity for the rest of the game.
