"Build a Neimoidian Throne within the flags."
―Nute Gunray, to OOM-9 — (audio) Listen (file info)[1]

A Neimoidan Throne was a type of building created by the Trade Federation, symbolizing the pinnacle of its culture. They were built using large quanitities of carbon, nova crystals, and ore and consisted of a square base with four curved spikes on each corner. In 32 BBY, the Trade Federation built two Neimoidian Thrones on Naboo during their invasion of the planet. One was built in the Palace Plaza in front of Theed Royal Palace during the fall of that capital city, while the other was built in the ruins of the city Spinnaker, but it was destroyed by the Gungan Grand Army.

Description[]

"Here are the resources you will need to build my throne."
―Nute Gunray, to OOM-9 — (audio) Listen (file info)[1]

A Neimoidian Throne was a large monument associated with the Trade Federation, whose leadership consisted of members of the Neimoidian species. They were constructed using large quantities of carbon, nova crystals, and ore.[1] A Neimoidian Throne represented the pinnacle of the Trade Federation's art, culture, and technology.[2] The square-shaped structure had brown plating that rose up on each side and met at the structure's center, and each side had a strip of black plating in the center. The corners of the throne had tall pointed spikes that rose above the base structure and curved inward. Two smaller tusk-like decorations were installed next to the center of the throne.[1]

History[]

"Wesa will teach those machineeks a good lesson! Destroyen their bombad temple and maxibig throne!"
―Boss Rugor Nass — (audio) Listen (file info)[1]

Two Neimoidian Thrones were constructed on the Mid Rim planet Naboo by the Trade Federation during their Invasion of Naboo in 32 BBY. During the Fall of Theed, in which the Trade Federation Droid Army captured Naboo's Human capital city, Theed, Trade Federation Viceroy Nute Gunray ordered the B1-Series battle droid OOM-9 to construct a Neimoidian Throne next to Theed Royal Palace.[1] Gunray intended to prove the Trade Federation's superiority and demoralize the Naboo people through the construction of the throne.[2]

After OOM-9's forces destroyed a signal jammer, Gunray dispatched six OX9 labor droids to Theed so that they could construct the throne. Once the battle droids had captured the grounds surrounding Theed Palace, Gunray sent the necessary resources to the droids so that they could construct the throne, warning them not to waste the resources on anything else. The labor droids built the throne in the Palace Plaza while OOM-9's army defended the site from the Royal Naboo Security Forces. Once the building was complete, Gunray congratulated OOM-9 on his successful capture of Theed.[1]

Another Neimoidian Throne was built in the ruins of the city Spinnaker, which the Trade Federation had captured and occupied prior to the Fall of Theed. The throne was protected by three heavy turrets, a heavy anti-air turret, and a shield generator. When the Gungan Grand Army sought to liberate Gungan and Naboo prisoners from Camp 14 near Spinnaker, its leader, Boss Rugor Nass, chose to attack the occupied city and destroy the Neimoidian Throne.[1] The Droid Army at the city had significant forces assigned to protect the throne,[2] but they were overrun by the Gungans, who destroyed the throne and built a Gungan Temple in its place.[1]

Neimoidian Throne

The Neimoidian Throne in the non-canon Gungan level

Neimoidian Thrones were introduced in Prima Games' strategy guide by Steven L. Kent,[2] released on November 7, 2001,[3] for the LucasArts video game Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds, which was released on November 11 that year.[4] The buildings serve as the Trade Federation's Monument, a type of building that, in some versions of the standard game mode, can be constructed to grant the player victory if it is not destroyed for two hundred in-game days. Monuments typically cost 3000 units each of carbon, nova crystals, and ore, but this can be reduced to 2850 units each by upgrades at spaceports unique to the Trade Federation civilization. These upgrades are titled "Neimoidian Endorsement" and "Market Insider Trading," and they reduce the cost of buildings by 5% and 10%, respectively.[1]

Neimoidian Thrones play roles in multiple levels in the campaigns of Galactic Battlegrounds. The first one is "Capturing the Crown," the fourth level of the Trade Federation campaign. In it, the player is instructed to build a Monument after taking control of the Theed Royal Palace grounds to achieve victory. Nute Gunray provides the player with exactly 2850 units of carbon, nova crystals, and ore to build the Neimoidian Throne, and the level is automatically lost if the player chooses to construct any buildings other than the throne or if the building is destroyed by the Naboo before its completion.[1] The Prima guide recommends that the player destroy the Naboo's military buildings as their army proceeds through Theed in order to lessen the extent of the attacks on the Monument later on.[2]

The Gungans destroy the Theed Neimoidian throne in a non-canon level.

The fifth level of the Gungan campaign, "The Chains Are Broken," features another Neimoidian Throne, which the player is required to destroy to complete the level. They are then required to build their own Monument on top of the site of the Neimoidian Throne. The Neimoidian Throne in Theed reappears in "The Battle for Theed," the seventh and final level of the Gungan campaign. The level is non-canon within the Star Wars Legends continuity and portrays what could have happened if the Gungan Grand Army had defeated the Trade Federation Droid Army at the Great Grass Plains,[1] rather than being saved by the intervention of the character Anakin Skywalker as portrayed in the 1999 prequel trilogy film, Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace.[5] The player completes the level by taking their army through Theed and destroying the Neimoidian Throne.[1] The strategy guide recommends doing so through the use[2] of cerrabores, the Gungan equivalent of pummels. The throne itself is defended by one medium turret and three anti-air turrets.[1]
