The battle of the Koban Gorge was an isolated incident that resulted from Jedi Master Polvin Kut's intervention on behalf of the citizens of the planet Koba, who were suffering under the oppression of Tulak, an Advozse warlord. Along with his Padawan Yaddle, Master Kut battled Tulak's Advozsec legions on a bridge overlooking the Koban Gorge, but the Jedi Master was defeated as insurmountable numbers of the enemy swarmed and killed him. Yaddle was subsequently taken captive and spent over a century as Tulak's prisoner.

Yaddle appears as a member of the Jedi High Council during Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan: Last Stand on Ord Mantell 1, established in its introduction to take place five years prior to Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace, which is dated by The Essential Reader's Companion to 32 BBY, five years after 37 BBY. Therefore, "Yaddle's Tale" must take place before or during this year, two-hundred years after 237 BBY.
