"Good, they're all drunk apart from that sad-looking wreck guarding the proximity shield."
Yongti[1]

A proximity shield was a type of short-range shielding used by the Nightsisters of Dathomir to confine their slaves and captives. The Jedi Knight Quinlan Vos was once detained behind a proximity shield during a mission on Dathomir.

History and usage[]

On the planet Dathomir, proximity shields were used by the Nightsisters, a society of all-female darksiders, to contain their male slaves in compounds. It would both stop the "malelings" from escaping and protect them against rival clans on a man raid after breeders. When activated, a proximity shield emitted an orange energectic barrier that was strong enough to hurt a rancor trying to get through it.[1]

Around 31 BBY, Clan Mother Zalem, self-proclaimed "Queen of the Nightsisters", made wide use of these shields to contain her slaves on the work camps. The same year, the Jedi Knight Quinlan Vos was captured during his mission on Dathomir and kept behind one such device for a time. Amongst the prisoners were also an Ithorian, two Duros and Yag Shushin, a Givin.[1]

Behind the scenes[]

The proximity shields appeared in the twenty-third issue of the Star Wars: Republic series of comics, published on October 25, 2000.[1]
