A mission occurred in 22 BBY. The infamous bounty hunter Cad Bane traveled to Rodia to find his next target, the Rodian child Wee Dunn. This mission was part two of a four part mission the Sith Master Darth Sidious assigned to Bane: capture four of the infants listed in the contents of the Kyber memory crystal, a list of every force-sensitive infant in the galaxy. The Jedi Anakin Skywalker, Mace Windu, Yoda, and Obi-Wan Kenobi traced the bounty hunter's kidnappings of the children through the Force, and so Kenobi volunteered to keep an eye on Wee Dunn and to protect the child.

The bounty hunter, disguised as a Jedi, failed to convince the child's mother, Mahtee Dunn, that it was time for her son to begin his Jedi training that the Rodian Jedi Master Bolla Ropal had promised her. When she refused to give him the child, Bane resorted to using a hypnogazer, a weapon that alters the victim's mind, to force her to give into his demands. By the time Kenobi had arrived to protect the child, the bounty hunter was already on the run. After a brief chase, Bane escaped in his advanced starfighter, the Xanadu Blood.

Bane forces coerces Skywalker into opening the stolen holocron

Darth Sidious, the Dark Lord of the Sith and the de facto leader of the Confederacy of Independent Systems, began to rely on the bounty hunter Cad Bane for his own personal use in 22 BBY, tasking Bane with stealing a holocron in the Jedi Temple and the capture of the Jedi Bolla Ropal, keeper of the Kyber memory crystal on Devaron. Considered to be the most efficient bounty hunter in the galaxy following, Bane accomplished both tasks, unlocking the information stored within: a list of every single Force-potent child in the galaxy.

Bane was granted the advanced starfighter, the Xanadu Blood, as a token for his actions, and Darth Sidious gave him a new mission: capture four of the Force-sensitive infants listed in the Kyber crystal and deliver them to the remote mining planet of Mustafar, where Sidious planned to use them as test subjects in his experiments for the alteration of Force-sensitives to build his own personal corps of spies.

Bane's first target was Zinn Toa, a Nautolan who lived on the aquatic world of Glee Anselm. In a group Force session, the Jedi Mace Windu, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Anakin Skywalker, and Grand Master of the Jedi Order Yoda detected his work on Glee Anselm through the force and decided to not send a Jedi peacekeeper to defend the child, since Bane most likely already accomplished his goal. Skywalker and his Padawan, Tano, were sent to Naboo to protect the Gungan child Roo-Roo Page, while Kenobi volunteered to go to Rodia, homeworld of the Rodian race, to defend the child Wee Dunn, Bane's next target.

Kenobi witnesses Bane kidnapping Wee Dunn

Bane traveled to Rodia, where the bounty hunter, wearing a Jedi robe, spoke with the Rodian Mahtee Dunn, the mother of the Force-sensitive Wee Dunn, in her home in the city Kay-Tap square. Bane deceived Dunn, stating that Jedi impostors had been roaming the galaxy and stealing Force-sensitive children. Bane claimed that in order to keep her son safe, she would need to give her child up for the Jedi training that the fellow Rodian Jedi Bolla Ropal had promised her. When she refused, the Duros used a hypnogazer, a device used to temporarily alter an individual's memory, to force her into complying with his demands.

Leaving one of his twin blasters behind and preparing to depart with Wee Dunn, Bane witnessed Jedi Master Kenobi—who had been dispatched to prevent the kidnapping—enter the room. After Bane left the room, Kenobi was confronted by a confused Mahtee, who was pointing Bane's blaster at Kenobi. Kenobi made it clear that Bane was no Jedi, as Jedi don't carry blasters: the Jedi weapon of choice is usually a lightsaber. When Kenobi spotted Bane outside, Bane activated his boots, which were modified to hold rocket propulsors, and soared to the landing platform where the Xanadu Blood was parked. Kenobi pursued the bounty hunter, but arrived too late to prevent him from escaping with the Rodian infant.

Cad Bane was able to escape with the second out of the four children he needed to complete his mission, and brought Dunn to the Sith's secret stronghold on the volcanic mining planet, Mustafar, but was captured soon after. Dunn was later rescued by Anakin Skywalker and his Padawan learner Ahsoka Tano on Mustafar.

Behind the scenes

Bane's capture of Wee Dunn was first depicted in "Children of the Force", aired on October 9, 2009. New technology introduced during production of season two of Star Wars: The Clone Wars made it possible to fit Rodia and several other planets depicted in "Children of the Force" into the time span of a single episode. Though the scenery and design of Rodia was already developed for the season one episode "Bombad Jedi," Rodia was redone for "Children of the Force" to make it look better.
