"Be careful there. They don't like visitors unless you're an Imperial. Better than being a Nyax follower! Eh. May as well be the same thing."
Lock Vlash, to a spacer[3]

The Imperial Stronghold was a military base used by the Galactic Empire on the planet Corellia during the Galactic Civil War.

Description[]

Located in the Suntir Plains, south of Dregan's Pike on the planet Corellia, the Stronghold was a base used by the Galactic Empire during the Galactic Civil War.[1]

Stronghold2

The Stronghold was patrolled by many different kinds of Imperial troopers.

The Stronghold consisted of seven single-story, bunker-like structures, five watch towers, and three landing pads. The majority of the Stronghold was surrounded by a metal wall. It was patrolled and staffed by Triumphant-class dark troopers, non-commissioned officers, Imperial troopers, stormtroopers, and other specialized stormtroopers, such as stormtrooper medics and assault troopers. TIE pilots were also present amongst the Stronghold's two TIE/LN starfighters, one TIE/sa bomber, and one Lambda-class T-4a shuttle. An Imperial Surface Marshal staffed the office of one of the Stronghold's buildings.[1]

History[]

"Look... the Empire has set up shop a little ways up the road. Let's just say they know of me and won't let me within 1000m of the place. You though can get a good look around there, then one day when I run a story on it, I'll look you up, got it? Here's where you can find it."
―An excited journalist, to a spacer[4]
Stronghold3

The Stronghold was staffed by an Imperial Surface Marshal.

The base was built and used by the Galactic Empire during the Galactic Civil War between the Empire and the Alliance to Restore the Republic. The Empire had gone to great lengths to construct this outpost.[4]

After the Battle of Yavin, very few Corellians knew the exact location of the base and the reason it was constructed. A journalist from Tyrena attempted to investigate the stronghold but he was repelled by Imperial authorities. The excited journalist later tried to recruit a spacer to infiltrate the base in order to find out more about its purpose.[4] The former Follower of Nyax Lock Vlash was also among the few to known the existence of the base.[3]

In 1 ABY,[5] the Imperial Stronghold had become a contested hotspot in the Galactic Civil War and Imperial and Rebel forces fought several times for the control of the base. Rebel forces managed to capture the base several times but Imperial forces had always taken it back.[2] Around the same time, a spacer managed to infiltrate the Stronghold and stole Scout trooper armor boots.[6]

Behind the scenes[]

The Imperial Stronghold appeared in the 2003 video game Star Wars Galaxies: An Empire Divided, a massively multiplayer online roleplaying game developed by Sony Online Entertainment and published by LucasArts,[1] prior to its closure on December 15, 2011.[7] With the release of the "Publish 1" update on August 3, 2003,[8] the Imperial Stronghold was turned into a "Factional NPC Base". Groups of Rebel players could attack Imperial NPCs and achieve several objectives to take control of the base.[2]

  5. According to its opening crawl, Star Wars Galaxies was set sometime after Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope. The only precise time indication in the game was given by the character Ruwan Tokai, who referenced the destruction of the Death Star at the Battle of Yavin as occurring one year earlier, placing the game sometime around 1 ABY. Later, multiple elements confirmed the placement of the game storyline in 1 ABY. First, The Essential Reader's Companion established that the tie-in novel Star Wars Galaxies: The Ruins of Dantooine took place in 1 ABY. Furthermore, the game expansion Star Wars Galaxies: Rage of the Wookiees was set during the Blockade of Kashyyyk, one year after the Battle of Yavin according to The Star Wars Holiday Special. Additionally, the main scenario of The Nightsister's Revenge from the Star Wars Galaxies Trading Card Game was set over a year before the Battle of Hoth (3 ABY), so around 1.5 ABY. Finally, the reference book Strongholds of Resistance placed the events of Star Wars Galaxies's Chapter 9: "The Fury of Exar Kun" one year after the Battle of Yavin. Of note, Galaxies's Chapter 11: "The Battle of Echo Base" introduced the Battle of Hoth in the game. However, the developers were quite clear that this was only intended to be a completely isolated "Star Wars Moment" without any effect on continuity for the rest of the game.
