First Lieutenant was a title carried by some Jedi during the Clone Wars as an assimilated military rank. It is uncertain exactly what position or authority the rank held within the Republic military. One notable holder of the rank was Anakin Skywalker. In the Imperial Army, the next rank up is Captain.

This rank was also later used by the Galactic Empire, Chiss Ascendancy, Rebel Alliance and the New Republic.
