First Order Walker Drivers were personnel that specialized in operating walkers such as the First Order All Terrain Armored Transport, All Terrain MegaCaliber Six, and the All Terrain Heavy Hauler during the war between the First Order and the Resistance. They participated in the Battle of Crait and the Battle of Batuu.

The Walker Drivers wore varying armor, but all were similar to that of stormtroopers and were distinguished by a gray stripe over their helmets. While some wore helmets that simply resembled that of a standard stormtrooper, some had helmets with a reinforced midrib protruding over the head while others donned snowtrooper gear.

Overview[]

Role[]

First Order Walker Drivers[3] were specialists who operated complex vehicles,[4] including the All Terrain Heavy Hauler, the All Terrain MegaCaliber Six,[1] and the First Order All Terrain Armored Transport.[2]

The MegaCaliber Six was led by an officer who commanded one pilot and one gunner officer, both of whom were Walker Drivers who sat at their stations in the cockpit. Two Walker Drivers who served as weapons engineers were stationed in a space within the walker's main body that was near the MegaCaliber Six turbolaser cannon at the top, where one engineer managed a weapons diagnostics interface.[1] The All Terrain Heavy Hauler was manned by four gunners wearing the armor of Walker Drivers, with two operating targeting interfaces at each side of the vehicle. A Walker Driver pilot and a co-pilot sat at the tug walker's bridge, where they were overseen by a vehicle commander.[1] The cockpit of an All Terrain Armored Transport was occupied by two Walker Drivers.[2]

Donning a gray jumpsuit, the walker crew at the Battle of Crait wore a helmet that resembled that of standard First Order stormtroopers. The right of the helmet's front bore a gray stripe.[1] Some walker drivers wore an armor akin to that of snowtroopers, with the addition of a gray stripe over the right side of the helmet.[4] All Terrain Armored Transport walker drivers aboard the Finalizer wore a set of armor with a helmet similar to that of a typical stormtrooper's, though it had a reinforced midrib that bore a dark line broadening in width as it came down the forehead.[2]

The troopers were also armed with a blaster for combat. Their weapon could either be a F-11D blaster rifle[4] or a SE-44C blaster pistol.[5]

History[]

First Order walker pilot

Walker pilots were stationed aboard AT-M6s during the Battle of Crait.

In 34 ABY, First Order Walker Drivers manned All Terrain MegaCaliber Sixes and All Terrain Heavy Haulers in the Battle of Crait against the Resistance.[1] The First Order forces won the battle on Crait under the leadership of Supreme Leader Kylo Ren, who gave orders from his command shuttle that were relayed by General Armitage Hux beside him and Lieutenant Jober Tavson, a Transport Corps member who was piloting the shuttle. The walkers suffered no casualties.[6]

Sometime later, Ren's flagship, the Finalizer, captured a group of Resistance members over Batuu. As the Resistance members escaped towards the starship's escape pods, they encountered a vehicle bay containing All Terrain Armored Transports. Two Walker Drivers within one of the transports spotted the escaping rebels and activated the walker's laser cannons. However, the Resistance members evaded the shots and escaped to Batuu safely.[2]

Behind the scenes[]

The First Order Walker Driver was first mentioned in the LEGO set "75189 First Order Heavy Assault Walker," released in 2017 as a tie-in to[3] the sequel trilogy film released later in the same year, Star Wars: Episode VIII The Last Jedi.[6] The drivers made their first canonical appearance, however, in the Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge ride Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance.[2]
