The Fluggrians were a sentient species with yellow eyes and green, purple, white and pink skin that was native to Ploo IV. Elan Mak was a Fluggrian podracer who was active on Tatooine.[3]
Biology and appearance[]
Fluggrians were a sentient[1] species of beings had round torsos and bulbous heads. Covered in green-colored skin, Fluggrians possessed long, slender arms that ended in hands with three, clawed digits. Their arms also happened to have a row of spikes on the underside of their forearms that stretched from their elbows to their wrists. Similar knobs protruded from their foreheads. In addition to their green skin, Fluggrians had purple marks that stretched around their faces, and had pink, puffy lips.[2]
Society and culture[]
By the time of the Invasion of Naboo, the Fluggrians had integrated with the larger galactic community. At least one Fluggrian, Elan Mak, pursued a career of podracing.[1][2]
Fluggrians in the galaxy[]
The Fluggrians originated from a homeworld and eventually found their way into the galaxy at large.[1] Masakene was a Fluggrian who served as the chief steward of Skarabda the Wise on Ballum during the High Republic Era.[4]
Elan Mak was a podracer pilot who originated from the planet Ploo IV. During the Invasion of Naboo, Mak was present on the world of Tatooine to participate in the Boonta Eve Classic podrace. Piloting a predominantly white-colored podracer, Mak finished the race in fifth place, beating the event's favored racer, Sebulba.[2]
Behind the scenes[]
Fluggrians were developed for the 1999 film Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace. The overall look and design of the species was created by conceptual artist Terryl Whitlatch. A detailed sculpture was built based on Whitlatch's artwork, the species, represented by the character of Elan Mak, appeared in the film as a fully computer-rendered character who could be fleetingly glimpsed in long range shots of his podracer. For the film's DVD release, a deleted scene was included that contained a more detailed digital Fluggrian.
