Force Light

Force Light was an immense light-side Force power used by Jedi. When used against a darksider, Force Light would weaken the darksider's connection to the Force. With the light of the Force, a Jedi could either purge or contain dark side manifestations or nexus points, whether in places, spirits, or even living persons, though sometimes to detrimental effect. By channeling the Force into withering blasts of light-side energy, the darkness can then be diminished or destroyed permanently. Force light could also be used to sever the bond between a Sith Battlelord and his or her followers.

Jedi Master Yaddle was known to possess this ability, having learned it when studying Jedi holocrons as head of the Librarian Assembly.[1] The Beast Master Thon used this power to cleanse the world of Ambria, isolating the dark side of that world in a lake.[2]
During the Beast Wars, Master Arca Jeth of Arkania used this power to repel the darkness that was plaguing the planet. With merely his presence, Arca was able to purge the dark side energies emanating from Freedon Nadd's sarcophagus, the same energies that Queen Amanoa drew power from for her Sith magic. A wave of his hand rolled back the power of the dark side with such force that Amanoa perished as well, the darkness having finally been driven from her.[3]
The Jedi Nomi Sunrider was a master of Force light, having used it in conjunction with her Battle Meditation to counter the magic of Aleema Keto and dissolve her illusory constructs.[4]
Jedi Knight Empatajayos Brand used this power to finally defeat the disembodied spirit of Emperor Palpatine. According to Grand Master Luke Skywalker, Brand "used the light side of the Force to shield" his nephew from Palpatine, effectively trapping the Emperor's spirit within Brand himself.[5] This extreme use of Force light was not without its setbacks however. Brand told Luke that he "could feel himself being eaten alive by the darkness, and he could not and maybe would not stop it." With that Brand died, forever binding Palpatine's spirit to Chaos. Luke remarked on how he was grateful that Brand was with him as he knew a power that Luke himself did not.[6]
It is possible that Jacen Solo may have used this power to defeat Onimi, Supreme Overlord of the Yuuzhan Vong at the end of the Vong War. According to the eye-witness account of his mother, Jacen became a "pillar of blinding light", and the "dazzling light seemed to spin outward from his midsection and surround him like an aura." In actuality, Jacen had achieved Oneness; a perfect state of harmony between the light and dark sides of the Force. Through his state of Oneness, the "light" that Leia describes then purged the darkness of Onimi, killing him, and ending the Yuuzhan Vong conflict once and for all. This perhaps was the most powerful manifestation of Force Light to date.[7][6]
