I will preclude this by saying that anyone who has posted on my Death Star Attacks topic, or read it, or even heard of it in any way must think I am an idiot. Now, I'm going to restart an earlier tangent I was having with Soresumakashi(did I spell it right?) and ask why armour doesn't protect from blasters?Chewie the Wampa 17:38, 3 July 2008 (UTC)Chewie the Wampa
- It depends on the type of armour, really. Some armour, I think, are blaster-proof, but most off-the-shelf armour most likely are not. It could be due to the material of the armour, the power of the blaster, the range from the blaster, how old the armour is, etc. Blaster bolts are essentially concentrated bursts of energy, or plasma. For a gaseous material to become that dense, it'd most likely be very, very, VERY hot. So, a super-heated projectile would very quickly burn and melt most light armour, unless the armour is made of a material that is dense enough to withstand it. Also, the force of the blast will have quite the concussion effect; it'd knock you off your feet. Even if the blaster didn't penetrate the armour, the force of the blast may be enough to shatter one's ribcage. The lethality of that may depend more on distance from the blaster, however. If you're far enough away, it'd still leave a hell of a mark, but you could possibly survive. It would also depend on where it hits.
- A number of factors need to be considered regarding whether armour would protect you from blasters or not. Though, I don't think any armour could protect someone from being pistol-whipped with a blaster... Even with a helmet on, if hit hard enough, that's gonna wrench your neck. compare balsters to high-power snipers in the real world. While I'm sure you can get armor that will protect you reasonably well, the simple fact is that it is unlikely that you'll be given one if you're a civilian or a normal policeman (though you probably could in america, they have crazy laws, the only thing you end up with is more insane rampages through supermarkets and schools)—it would cost too much. What you might be given is a cheap vest or something that will protect you from thugs and troublemakers. They can be compared to stormie armor etc. Soresumakashi 07:18, 4 July 2008 (UTC)
And you have to look at what sort of blaster gas was used to fire the shot. Somehting like skevon or tolium may not penetrate certain forms of armour but others such as sig (which the Republic tried to ban) were particularly potent. I think it's the SW equivalent of the full metal jacket.
Good to see someone else on the wook that spells armour with a U - Katana Geldar 00:49, 5 July 2008 (UTC)
- A few people here, myself included, spell armour the correct way, just not in-article because everyone else complains. Jasca Ducato Sith Council 11:47, 5 July 2008 (UTC)
Wow. A discussion of armour becomes a chat about various non-standard spellings of mildly inane words. How about that? Any ways, why doesn't anyone make better armour?Chewie the Wampa 19:11, 5 July 2008 (UTC)Chewie the Wampa
- Because it's too expensive. Soresumakashi 04:53, 7 July 2008 (UTC)
Harbour, honour, armour, grey, aluminium and manoeuvre. The right way to spell. Katana Geldar 05:16, 6 July 2008 (UTC)
- That's nice. Just keep your right ways out of our articles. -- Ozzel 05:20, 7 July 2008 (UTC)
Oh Lords of Overblown Pomposity, Oh Holy Ones of Correctness:) please, might your Lordships return to the topic at hand of armour before this thread is deleted out of hand?Chewie the Wampa 15:38, 8 July 2008 (UTC)Chewie the Wampa
- To answer your question: as Trak Nar mentioned above, they do make better armor. If you're asking why Stormtrooper armor is so weak, that's like asking why TIE fighters don't have shields. The Empire has always gone for quantity over quality. -- SM-716 talk? 17:48, 8 July 2008 (UTC)
But in Heir to the Empire, I think it is Thrawn who says the Empire never had many stormies. So how is that quantity?Chewie the Wampa 18:45, 11 July 2008 (UTC)Chewie the Wampa
