The system works, and I believe archiving the current talk pages will disrupt ongoing conversations. So I join my fellow users in asking for a reversal of the upcoming changes. Corellian PremierAll along the watchtower 03:01, September 27, 2011 (UTC)
This is of course totally hopeless, as Wikia stopped caring about what users actually want a long time ago. But sure, I'll sign. -- Darth Culator(Talk) 03:05, September 27, 2011 (UTC)
Per Corellian Premier. Why mess with success? -- SFH 03:13, September 27, 2011 (UTC)
See the thing is, the law of averages says that there's at least one Wiki that will love this new change. But the key is choice. The change should be optional, an elective left at the discretion of each individual Wiki's administration to implement based on what they find works best for their user community, and not forced upon anyone. But honestly? *sigh* Per Culator. --Bella'Mia 03:28, September 27, 2011 (UTC)

Been horrified by the restrictions and dumbingdown effect of this, so now I give out my public opinion: good for social sites, bad for us, veeeery bad. –Tm_T(Talk) 05:01, September 27, 2011 (UTC)
Considering a multitude of established users said they would quit, maybe wikia should actually start listening if they want to retain their active editors. However, as it seems they only care about page views. 1358(Talk) 05:24, September 27, 2011 (UTC)

I've half given up on editing anyway so if Wikia do start going through with more and more bullshit like this then I'm happy to go spend my time elsewhere. —NAYAYEN 12:31, September 27, 2011 (UTC)

Per Culator, Corellian Premier, Nayayen, and everyone else. We are a collaborative Star Wars information project and not a social networking site. Does anyone think that we should make some kind of announcement to everyone about this so that everyone will know what is going on? Just a thought. Sigh...--Exiled Jedi(Greetings) 03:30, September 27, 2011 (UTC)
It appears that just about everyone on Wookieepedia knows about it now. Even WhiteBoy came out for this one. :D But I think that someone should definitely shove this in Wikia's face to show that none of us want it and several have threatened to quit. --Cal Jedi(Personal Comm Channel) 13:27, September 27, 2011 (UTC)
I included a link to this in an example in my tl;dr special:contact complaint. :3 1358(Talk) 13:32, September 27, 2011 (UTC)
Why can't we just leave Wikia entirely? I can't even edit anonymously without being bombarded by their massive amounts of dreck piled upon more dreck. Wikkii seems like a good enough alternative, as does Shoutwiki. Or there's always independent hosting. 187.115.169.183 15:30, September 27, 2011 (UTC)
The problem is basically that wikia pwns google rankings. We will never have back our pageviews if we move and this version continues to exist. And wikia refuses to close wikis. 1358(Talk) 15:34, September 27, 2011 (UTC)
Hypothetically, if we can somehow tell StarWars.com that we've moved, those Encyclopedia links might actually turn out to be a good thing. They'll help fans find out where we are. NaruHinaTalk 16:26, September 27, 2011 (UTC)
Maybe Lucas would be willing to host Wookieepedia on a subpage of StarWars.com, since he's replacing the Databank anyway.--KissMyWookiee(Talk At Me), 05:14, September 28, 2011 (UTC)
I don't think that that would be a very good idea. Then we'd all have to go by whatever LucasFilm says, and we'd be considered an "official" site rather than a "fan" site. If I'm going to work for LFL, I want to be paid and given an official title. :P --Cal Jedi(Personal Comm Channel) 14:07, September 28, 2011 (UTC)
I didn't say it was a "good" idea, and it probably would create more issues than it resolves, but it would definitely end the question of "which Wookieepeida is the REAL Wookieepedia" if it comes to that. --KissMyWookiee(Talk At Me), 16:20, September 28, 2011 (UTC)
Hey everybody, I just thought of a way that we can avoid using the new style even if it is implemented. Each user can create a user subpage called User:<UserName>/talk which can be used in a similar way to the old talk page. I know it won't be quite the same and it won't be quite as good as the old king, but at least we could have something closer to what we currently have if Wikia makes us have the new message boards. What does everyone think of this backup plan?--Exiled Jedi(Greetings) 23:56, September 27, 2011 (UTC)
Hmm, good thinking, but I frankly can't say that I look forward to either option, but I guess it would be better than Wikia's thing. But then each user would have to make one, and we can't force users to make one. I can see bad in both sides, so let's really hope that this will be a back-up plan only, and Wikia will keep the message boards away from us.--Cal Jedi(Personal Comm Channel) 23:59, September 27, 2011 (UTC)
I don't really like my backup plan either, but it is a whole lot better than what Wikia has in mind, and I think that a lot of our users would go along with my idea for a backup plan if faced with the alternative.--Exiled Jedi(Greetings) 00:13, September 28, 2011 (UTC)
Heh, believe me, I'd much rather go with your plan than Wikia's plan. I'm just still hanging unto hope that this petition will do something.--Cal Jedi(Personal Comm Channel) 00:16, September 28, 2011 (UTC)
Me too. We're in the same boat...--Exiled Jedi(Greetings) 00:25, September 28, 2011 (UTC)
The only problems I see with this are the following: 1) We would have to make EVERY user a subpage, 2) No one would get the "You have new messages" notice anymore, so everyone would have to be trusted to check their own subpage. MasterFred(Whatever) 13:16, September 28, 2011 (UTC)
My thoughts exactly. That's why I said let's keep it as a back-up and still hope that this will work.--Cal Jedi(Personal Comm Channel) 14:07, September 28, 2011 (UTC)

What do you mean? The call is coming from inside the wiki farm. They're watching us. >.> NaruHinaTalk 16:05, November 2, 2011 (UTC)
I've just received word from Wikia staff that the message wall will not be mandatoryfor now. A Wikia staff member told us in Skype about this:
[10:38:16 PM] justjeninsf: Hey ecks - just want to be really clear: the product is going in to labs for a while - if we see enough communities choosing to turn it on and use it, we'll evaluate whether or not we'll be releasing it globally.
[10:38:43 PM] justjeninsf: if it is released globally, it will be like every other global release in that local communities won't be able to turn it on or off (see admin dashboard as an example)
[10:38:43 PM] ecks: So there is some chance it can be made mandatory at some point in the future?
[10:39:12 PM] justjeninsf: Ecks - yes, there is some chance though it's a ways off
(justjeninsf is w:User:Jenburton; ecks is me)
As you can see, the threat is not over finally yet. But certainly a good sign. 1358(Talk) 20:42, December 13, 2011 (UTC)
At least we have kept it off of us for now. Let's hope plenty of communities don't use it, but for now...Hooray!--Cal Jedi(Personal Comm Channel) 22:54, December 13, 2011 (UTC)
