Essentially, this would make it far easier to group all a company's products, rather than having manual lists on each company page, which are naturally prone to vandalism and false info. Yeah, it'd mean a lot of work, but I think it would be a useful system - Captain Kwenn– Talk 15:42, 1 December 2007 (UTC)
Hmm. Sounds like a good idea, but some might find simply going to the company page and looking at product lists easier than trawling through categories. It could work for companies with a huge list of products that just clutter up their pages, though. Unit 8311 18:30, 1 December 2007 (UTC)
Innovative idea! Yes, this would make searching for company-specific products easier and faster. Michaeldsuarez(Activate Holocron) 04:12, 2 December 2007 (UTC)
I like this idea. Although it would be "Industrial Automaton products". Thefourdotelipsis 04:28, 2 December 2007 (UTC)
That'd make everything easier. When I'm looking for who made the DC-15s, I wouldn't want to go to the BlasTech page and sift through all its products. Jedi Master Chief 04:49, 2 December 2007 (UTC)
I think this could work. —Xwing328(Talk) 16:01, 2 December 2007 (UTC)
You'll get no objection from me. jSarek 01:51, 3 December 2007 (UTC)
Allright, everyone has said how great they think this idea is (I think is great too), but who's gonna do the actual work? Carlitos Moff 07:16, 4 December 2007 (UTC)
Well, it could be an unofficial WookieeProject or something like that... maybe a link in the heading thing (I can never remember what it's called) pointing to this CT, asking users to aid. JorrelFraajic 08:12, 4 December 2007 (UTC)
Might be able to get a droid to do the categorizing if it can be programmed to recognize a company name on its article, perhaps within the infobox. I think its a great idea, and really categories enhance already useful lists on company pages and have to work hand in hand. Btw, this would help alot with Kuat Drive Yards's multitude of products. -- Riffsyphon1024 23:55, 4 December 2007 (UTC)
The droid would certainly cut down on the work, but it would also mean articles aren't checked for accuracy. Articles with assumed, incorrect or just plain fanon manufacturers wouldn't be caught without a manual check. I think this transition would be a good place to carry out that check, so that fully verified articles can then be added to cats - Captain Kwenn– Talk 13:25, 5 December 2007 (UTC)
Additionally, which companies would be given cats of their own? Obviously BlasTech and the like, but would a company with only one known product be given a cat? Are we going for completist? - Captain Kwenn– Talk 13:28, 5 December 2007 (UTC)
I guess if it has at least two known products, then it's suitable to have it's own category. Anyone agrees? Stake blackmsg 13:26, 11 December 2007 (UTC)
I think that's the rule of thumb for other categories, so yeah, sounds reasonable. jSarek 07:25, 12 December 2007 (UTC)
Can this be started on? Or perhaps we should wait a bit to give the image categorization project time in the spotlight? - Captain Kwenn– Talk 22:27, 13 December 2007 (UTC)
Shall I start off with Category:Kuat Drive Yards products, so we can start by getting the big ones out of the way? Unit 8311 17:47, 14 December 2007 (UTC)
Doesn't matter. We'll get them all :) Stake blackmsg 22:15, 18 December 2007 (UTC)
Alrighty then, I've started it off with KDY. Unit 8311 15:42, 19 December 2007 (UTC)
Should I categorise subsidaries such as Kuat Vehicles, Rothana, etc as KDY products or should seperate cats be created for those? Unit 8311 16:26, 19 December 2007 (UTC)
Subcategorize, in my opinion. Graestan(Talk) 19:42, 19 December 2007 (UTC)
Yeah, per Graestan. Stake blackmsg 12:54, 20 December 2007 (UTC)
I've just done Industrial Automaton. Now all I've got left is something like 200 companies and their products to categorise, so I'd appreciate some help here...Unit 8311 16:53, 20 December 2007 (UTC)
I'll give you a hand. Should we also add it to specific units like R2-D2 or C-3PO? Stake blackmsg 19:03, 20 December 2007 (UTC)
Thanks. Actually, you're right, we should. Unit 8311 20:21, 20 December 2007 (UTC)
Yay for more categories that contain droids! I'll definetly give you a hand when I am working on droid articles. (Which is almost all of the time) Carlitos Moff 01:57, 21 December 2007 (UTC)
Status report: going smoothly so far. Should comps that have had their products categorized be purged of messy product lists of their respective pages? Unit 8311 17:04, 31 December 2007 (UTC)
That sounds like a good idea, as long as a link to the companies' respective category lists is included in the prose (example: ==Products==See[[:Category:Imperial Automation products]]) JorrelFraajic 11:39, 1 January 2008 (UTC)
Okay. Anyone else concur? Unit 8311 12:29, 1 January 2008 (UTC)
Sounds like a good idea to me. jSarek 04:16, 2 January 2008 (UTC)
I would be happy to help with this if you'll need it.—DarthtylerTalk 04:23, 2 January 2008 (UTC)
