The result was: Refer to clone troopers by their numbers instead of their names, should their numbers be provided. Graestan(Talk) 17:58, 14 January 2008 (UTC)
This proposal is pretty simple: move clone troopers from their letter/number distinctions to their chosen names. For example, CC-1119 would be moved to Appo. Obviously, if a name is not known, the trooper wouldn't be moved. There are several reasons I think this would make sense:
- Our policy is to go by the latest given name, which their chosen names obviously would be.
- In the cases of Sith Lords, we use their Darth names over their original names; I think this is pretty much the same situation.
- In every case I have seen, characters (including the troopers themselves) refer to them by their new names. How many times have you read Bly being called "CC-5052" or Alpha being called "Alpha-17"?
- We already have N-10 moved to Jaing Skirata.

Change to this new policy

- It would make articles much easier to find on lists and categories rather than memorizing their id numbers. Definatley.—DarthtylerTalk 03:34, 28 July 2007 (UTC)
Greyman(Paratus) 03:36, 28 July 2007 (UTC)Almost nowhere are they commonly identified by their numbers. - Graestan (This party's over) 03:38, 28 July 2007 (UTC)This makes excellent sense. Atarumaster88 (Talk page) 05:47, 28 July 2007 (UTC)

- If a clone is given a name, most people recognize them by their name. So I think that this policy should be put into effect. Jedi Master Chief 00:51, 2 December 2007 (UTC)
- The thing is, that's not necessarily true. Their names are officially recorded as numbers, and only their brothers, sergeants, and a few Jedi actually called them by the names. Hobbes(Tiger's Lair) 01:23, 2 December 2007 (UTC)
- For many clones, it is. Captain Fordo comes before Alpha-77, and Commander Bly comes before CC-5052. I very much agree with you that only a few select Jedi and clones call them by their nicknames, but a lot of times, those are the only few people some clones have a long-term relationship with. The only people Boss (RC-1138), Delta Squad's leader, has ever really interacted with would be his team.Jedi Master Chief 04:45, 2 December 2007 (UTC)

- Jaing Skirata is an isolated case, as he left the service and took on his own name -- it's "Jaing Skirata" that appears on his official forms and such and not N-10, going by what we see of him. That's not the case for the other clones, for whom their names are, as important as the Jedi may consider it and as much as they may go by them in conversation, only nicknames. Their official designations remain; do we move Derek Klivian to Hobbie Klivian simply because Hobbie uses his nickname almost exclusively instead of his official name? Same with Thrawn, or anyone else. Precedent long ago came down against this kind of move; it's only because the official names are cold-hearted numbers that this gets serious consideration. There's no need to create a special, baseless exception to policy here. Havac 23:07, 28 July 2007 (UTC)
- What Havac said. The letters-and-numbers designations of clone troopers are official. Nicknames aren't. —Grand Admiral J. Nebulax (Imperial Holovision) 23:16, 28 July 2007 (UTC)

- I've always preferred the "legal name" scheme. Though we clearly don't have access to Imperial records, we can at least make an educated guess that this is how the clones would be registered. -- Darth Culator (Talk) 11:44, 30 July 2007 (UTC)

- I think we should leave it. I do see your point that their names are used more often than their numbers, but the fact is their numbers are their given names and the names they use are just nicknames. -- Reignfire 03:25, 28 July 2007 (UTC)
- And my point is that they're not just nicknames. In the Republic comics the Jedi are adamant about the troopers taking on official names to become more like people. In Cestus Deception, Nate is Nate and not N-98. Etc etc. Kuralyov 03:27, 28 July 2007 (UTC)
- They're not "official" names. They're merely nicknames that the Jedi and others had come to call them. Their letters-and-numbers designations are the only official "names" that clone troopers have. —Grand Admiral J. Nebulax (Imperial Holovision) 14:25, 29 July 2007 (UTC)
