Right then, as most of you have undoubtedly noticed the featured article page has become extremely cluttered, in some cases with articles that clearly don't belong there, and others that have even been nominated for the improvement drive at the same time (see Aayla Secura). Realizing that we had no formal way of getting rid of clear failures from the WP:FA page, I brought this up on Riffsyphon1024's talk page and have been suggested the idea of getting rid of articles that haven't gotten a vote in a month. It seems like a good idea to me, but I figured it'd be best to put it to a vote, considering it's a fairly major decision. Discuss. --MarcK [talk] 14:42, 13 Dec 2005 (UTC)

  • The problem is that some people seem to be nominating their favourites, not the articles that truly shine (see Aayla Secura, among others). I think it needs to made clear (especially to newer users) that Featured Article noms are for quality articles, not articles of your favourite characters/ships/locations/whatever. Same for the voting process...vote based on the merits of the article, not because the subject is cool or whatever. Anyway, sorry for my rant. I agree that after one month (maybe even two weeks), the failures should go. It would clean up the current list considerably. StarNeptune 14:19, 18 Dec 2005 (UTC)
  • Agreed, SN. And the "no votes in a month" rule sounds fair to me. WhiteBoy 23:30, 23 Dec 2005 (UTC)
  • Perhaps we should do away with "votes". Nominations should be stalled by oppositions, not advanced by votes. --SparqMan 00:32, 25 Dec 2005 (UTC)
  • To reinforce what I said, if nothing's brought up in a month, the discussion for an article is dead. -- Riffsyphon1024 06:35, 27 Dec 2005 (UTC)
  • Well, looking at how the featured article debate in general's going, it doesn't look like this discussion is necessary anymore, therefore...erm...*slams gavel* --MarcK [talk] 11:30, 1 Jan 2006 (UTC)
