Forgive me if this is a bit premature or unwarranted from a simple user, but it seems to be a logical next step. In the Senate Hall there's an ongoing discussion about having links on the main page of Wookieepedia for various good articles on the wiki. Various proposals have been aired, such as a randomized link from week to week, day to day, or even a subcommittee to determine a queue for GAs to fill that spot. Anyway, since a healthy number of users seem to like the idea, Xwing328 suggested that it was time for a consensus track, so I've decided to get the ball rolling on that. This is the first time I've done this so forgive me if the format is a bit sloppy.--Goodwood 23:55, 15 July 2007 (UTC)
Anyway, here goes:
Those in favor of a Good Article link somewhere on the wiki main page should vote yes, those against should vote no.
I support this because it gives a chance for good articles to get the same kind of notice as featured articles.--Goodwood 23:55, 15 July 2007 (UTC)
Me too. I think Good Articles need more coverage, as currently it is unlikely for an new user to stumble upon them. This would be a good development. TheOne&OnlyAdmirableAckbar(It's A Trap!) 23:59, 15 July 2007 (UTC)
I'd be for a simple text link to a Good Article. -- Ozzel 00:02, 16 July 2007 (UTC)
That's what I had in mind too, Ozzel - just a simple title link.--Goodwood 00:05, 16 July 2007 (UTC)
Sure, just a link to the "Good Article of the week" (or other period). -Fnlayson 00:21, 16 July 2007 (UTC)
No...what don't you understand about the word "Featured"? If an article is good enough to reach "Featured Article" stage, then it gets Featured on the Main Page. I'm okay with a single link to the Category, but this is just an attempt by Goodwood to get his Good Articles on the main page before they've reached Featured status. If a single article is good enough to be Featured on the Main Page, then it's already a Featured article. So to summarize...I'm okay with a single link to the category, or a list...I am not okay with links to the articles themselves. —Jaymach Ral'Tir (talk) 00:09, 16 July 2007 (UTC)
Personally I think it should be a weekly thing, randomized from week to week around the time the Featured Article is changed over; from my understanding this shouldn't be too terribly difficult to code. The link itself could be on the lower right-hand corner of the page, somewhere near the Wookieepedian of the Month area.--Goodwood 23:55, 15 July 2007 (UTC)
This would be a featured link, not a sample of the article link an Featured Article. I see it a Quote of the day or the Improvement drive link. -Fnlayson 00:19, 16 July 2007 (UTC)
Wait, are we proposing linking to an individual GA, or to the whole list of GAs? Because the latter is only a minor change which I'd fully support, but choosing an individual GA could mean a major change to the main page layout, not to mention making more work for the Inqs. —Silly Dan(talk) 01:11, 16 July 2007 (UTC)
Jaymach has a point, though he delivered it with his customary lack of diplomacy. I'm in favor of a link to the GA project page or the GA category, but not any specific article name. -- Darth Culator(Talk) 01:42, 16 July 2007 (UTC)
I'm in agreement with Culator and Silly Dan. During the Senate Hall thread I commented that a link should be possible, but I don't agree with putting an individual GA article on the main page as if it were an FA. However, I definitely agree with a link or whatnot, maybe a box similar to the ID.
What is a Good article? Come take a look here and see what it's all about.
This is a really rough idea, but I think it communicates what I had in mind. Greyman(Paratus) 03:03, 16 July 2007 (UTC)
Half of you probably haven't even noticed, but a day or two ago I added the Good articles link to the Main Page near the links to the Featured articles. IMO, it's very unobtrusive. If we did decide to add more, though, such as a random link to a specific GA, it should be moved elsewhere. —Xwing328(Talk) 03:15, 16 July 2007 (UTC)
heh, I actually noticed it while I was writing my comment above :P . Greyman(Paratus) 03:17, 16 July 2007 (UTC)
