Relatively simple and non-instruction creepy policy change I'm asking for here: No images of foreign covers for games/books/comics (posters included here), that have nothing changed but the text. It's a whole new image that we've got uploaded for a negligible and minuscule difference. Now, if the imagery has been altered, keep the image. And if it's something like the Japanese covers, of course we'll keep them. But...

Don't support the removal of redundant foreign coversEdit

1. Would you like to remove all of the paperback and hardcover variations of the American novels while we're at it? Anyways, how do these hurt us at all? They don't. Sure, a microscopic portion of Wikia's servers are used to store these images, but they'll still be there once we delete them thanks to Special:Undelete. Category:Book covers and Category:Foreign book covers have already been separated to save any trouble in that area. And you know we get many foreign visitors to this site. Maybe they want to see the name of the book in their native language. And what better way to confirm the translation in the list suggested above than with an actual picture of the foreign book to back it up? I've already corrected several translations by other users this way. Furthermore, several sites have tried to collect images of the different variations of Star Wars books, but only Wookieepedia has succeeded to this extent. Do we really just want to completely remove this extra feature that displays the extent to which Star Wars has reached worldwide? We really shouldn't want to move all of these images to SWMerchandise, as then we'd be having hundreds of duplicate articles of all of the books. Finally, since the gallery is at the end of the article, does it really cause that much viewing displeasure? • Another possible exception we should consider - when the foreign cover is the source of an image we use on this site. For instance, using CoD as an example, the Polish cover above keeps letters out of Valorum's and Palpatine's hair, and thus might be a better source for an image of Valorum than the English version, should we need it. If this need exists, it's infrequent enough to not warrant an actual objection to the current version of the policy, but I thought I ought to throw it out there. jSarek 11:44, 11 November 2007 (UTC)
  • I was actually thinking of that myself. We definitely want to be able to get the best images possible, but I agree with the overall thrust of the proposal -- we don't need galleries of these things. Havac 20:37, 11 November 2007 (UTC)
• Another reason that I failed to stipulate is that galleries are just plain bad encyclopedic practice, and we should be looking to oust them wherever possible... Thefourdotelipsis 21:34, 12 November 2007 (UTC)
