The result of the debate was keep articles on video game consoles. -- Ozzel 21:15, 17 October 2007 (UTC)
Apparently, we have articles devoted to video game consoles, such as Game Boy, Xbox, Playstation, PC etc. Since these things in themselves have absolutely nothing to do with SW, and AFAIK has only been kept around because they serve as lists for which games are for which console, I see no reason to keep them around. If we want listings of which video games are for which console, we can make sub-categories, or even an article devoted to it. Having articles on consoles, with manufacturer info and similar, is completely beyond the purview of Wookieepedia. We can embed Wikipedia links in the relevant categories or articles for people who want to know stuff about the consoles themselves. DarthMRN 01:41, 4 June 2007 (UTC)

Make subcategories for each console, with links to the video games
Edit
- We seriously need to make some rules for how much OOU stuff is permitted. Next we'll be recording DVD players... DarthMRN 11:21, 8 June 2007 (UTC)
Make one or more articles devoted to listing video games by console
Edit
- I would strongly prefer this solution. The consoles themselves have nothing to do with Star Wars and thus shouldn't be here. Plus, I'll bet some guy with too much spare time on his hands will expand them to full articles, maybe even FA status... Commander Daal

- We're arguing about whether to include game console articles on a Star Wars encyclopedia. Aren't we all "some guy[s] with too much spare time"? And the solution to them being expanded is to remove the contributions that are un-Star Warsy and point the editor to the archive of this very Consensus Track. Wildyoda 18:52, 4 June 2007 (UTC)
- On that condition, I change my vote to Neutral. Commander Daal

Keep the current console articles
Edit
- First off, I'd like to say that I think this CT is silly since nobody disagreed with the statement that consoles were fine in this archived deletion discussion for console manufacturers. Secondly, it is redundant since there is already a Trash Compactor discussion going on about the Game Boy, on which consensus is currently 4:1 keep. And third, if console pages are deleted, eventually someone is just going to create a list of Game Boy games, a list of Playstation games, a list of Xbox games, etc. Since we've already GOT that and an explanation of what the console is, I say remove a step and leave them all alone. Fourth, the console pages are useful in and of themselves. Take Xbox 360 for example, which notes the logical deduction that KOTOR3 would be released for this system if it ever came out, which is really the best place on this wiki for that comment to be. We are not trying to develop articles about the history of the game consoles, just how they relate to Star Wars, and I think the list of games on each one relates it sufficiently that as they stand, they are perfectly acceptable additions to the wiki. The console manufacturers were far enough removed that, yes, they are outside the purview of wookieepedia, but these are not.Wildyoda 01:47, 4 June 2007 (UTC)

- Keep, for reasons stated and that even though non-Star Wars, it assembles all the Star Wars games under that particular console. -- Riffsyphon1024 02:08, 8 June 2007 (UTC)

- Note- this was quickly devolving into an argument rather than a discussion. Rather than be uncivil, I moved a conversation to User_talk:DarthMRN. Wildyoda 04:53, 4 June 2007 (UTC)
- And for quick reference: My suggestion is to merely move the console articles to "List of video games for X", remove the meager top part and image from each article, and have the console name redirect to the list. Little work, does the same job, and is actually consistent with our SW-only approach. DarthMRN 13:31, 4 June 2007 (UTC)
- So it's mainly a question of just renaming all the articles since they already are list-like? KEJ 16:25, 4 June 2007 (UTC)
- Well, that is the only SW-related use they seem to have. I can understand why we would want someone serching for the Xbox getting a list of Xbox games, but creating a redirect isn't a problem. This is all providing the community wants an article rather than a subcategory for this sort of thing. DarthMRN 16:36, 4 June 2007 (UTC)
- I follow you on that one, provided that all the lists is given the format as the PC article with a couple of lines describing each game briefly. KEJ 18:13, 4 June 2007 (UTC)

- Come to think of it, what is our current policy on OOU articles? Is there a policy? DarthMRN 20:24, 4 June 2007 (UTC)
- Policy in regards to what? See WP:MOS. Wildyoda 20:31, 4 June 2007 (UTC)
- Policy in regards to what criteria must apply for an OOU article to be accepted on Wookieepedia. If I made a New York article, I'm pretty sure it would be deleted, which again means there must be something in terms of rules or policies to justify such a deletion. DarthMRN 23:00, 4 June 2007 (UTC)
- If it is not exactly stated somewhere, it is strongly implied from this being a Star Wars Wiki. They have to be Star Wars related. That's what the FAQ page says and elsewhere I'm sure. -Fnlayson 23:44, 4 June 2007 (UTC)
- But since we find ourself in a position where something that arguably is not Star Wars related gets its own article, a policy or guidline would be nice to have. And if none exist, perhaps it is time. DarthMRN 00:05, 5 June 2007 (UTC)
- True. Some guidance on how far related goes, would be good too. -Fnlayson 00:27, 5 June 2007 (UTC)
- I agree with you in principle, but this is what causes instruction creep. If something is questionable, it can be brought up for WP:TC or WP:CT, but in general, I don't think we have a problem with common sense in regards to "Star Wars relatedness" for any type of articles, even IU ones that match up to real-world counterparts. Look at these articles. A person thought they were sufficiently unrelated, they were nominated for deletion, and it has been discussed and looks to me to have easily reached consensus.
