I was taking a look at this category: http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Category:Droid_series

And It seems odd to me... the articles that fall in this category.

One would believe that "Droid Series" is a category for the different, well... Series of droids. Good examples would be: MSE-series, FX-series medical assistant droid or the IG-series which are series of several different droid designs with common designations and functions.

But this category also holds individual models, like: IT-O Interrogator, BD-3000 luxury droid or the TDL Nanny Droid.

I believe the individual models are not supposed to belong here but they should rather be categorized into their proper places, but before making such a big change, I wanted to post it here for people to see it and tell me if I am mistaken or something along those lines. • I agree. I think that things like IT-O series, etc. would be fine, but not individual models.Andur Dral'runi 15:15, 23 September 2007 (UTC)
  • Disagree. There's little difference between a droid series and droid model (or type) that I can see. -Fnlayson 05:51, 24 September 2007 (UTC)
  • Well... let me just put an example: A droid "Series" article would be IG-series, this article has a small list of all droid models with the IG designation, that includes the IG lancer combat droid, the IG-88 model and the lovingly IG-100 MagnaGuards. These "Models" are all quite different from each other (The first are lance wielding mounted units, the other are overpowered assassin droids and the last are bodyguard-type droids) but they retain some basic similarities (Mainly the part about killing stuff).

A droid "Model" would be the beforementioned IG-100 MagnaGuards which are an specific type of droid built in the same way. The may have different "Designations" (Like names of some sort) but they are essentially the same components and programming. You could have different "Characters" withing the same droid model, like: IG-101, IG-109 or the less known IG-179.

The differences are worthy of note, on my opinion. That is why I think that articles like SE4 servant droid shold be removed from "Droid series" because they are actually "Droid models" so they would be better categorized. (Pardon the crazy sintaxis on that last sentence) Carlitos Moff 20:05, 25 September 2007 (UTC)

  • I think the distinction is going to be lost on the average user and editor, but that's just me. Anyway, I see you're removing them from the "Droid series" category but not putting them into a "Droid Models" category; I hope you have plans to go back and fix that. jSarek 23:08, 26 September 2007 (UTC)
    • Indeed I do. In fact, the next thing I was planning to do was to properly put each droid I removed on that category if they weren't there already. And also, try to categorize them in their proper In Universe designations, like "First degree", "Second degree" and so forth. Carlitos Moff 00:00, 27 September 2007 (UTC)
      • Hmmm... now that you mention it jSarek. It was kinda moronic of me to star removing them form "Droid series" and not add them to "Droid models" inmediately, since It was kind of doubling the work for me. I am gonna go back into the one I removed earlier and put them into "Droid models", and the next changes I make will be to change from one category to the other, its faster and cleaner that way. By the way, sorry for the clutter on the "Recent changes" page... I know I could have tagged the edits as "Minor edits". But I didn't want people to think I wanted to be sneaky about modifying the categories and to give everybody a chance to see what I was doing. Carlitos Moff 00:19, 27 September 2007 (UTC)
