We've got a lot of templates, many of which are redundant. Sometimes this is just annoying inconsistency, but sometimes it has real effects on the Wiki (for instance, Template:Imagequality and Template:Cleanup-image create two separate galleries). I'd like to see us consolidate our templates so that they're easier to remember and cover their content in a broad manner. However, I'm not sure how to best go about this. Thoughts? jSarek 06:32, 23 September 2007 (UTC)

  • Yes, this has become a problem, but thankfully the solution is relatively simple (IMHO). Sll it takes is the systematic approach: identify the redundancies and merge/prune templates as necessary. I'm not entirely sure about the whole nuts-and-bolts stuff, but it seems that this can be done.--Goodwood 06:37, 23 September 2007 (UTC)
    • I started a thread about this a while back, but nothing came of it. However, for the example you give, I'm glad we have the two. The difference is that one is for images that simply need to be cleaned up (levels, etc.) while the other is for images that need a completely new scan. Anyway, I'd be happy to start up the other thread again and actually try to get something done, maybe resulting in some VFDs (er, TCs) or something. -- Ozzel 19:03, 23 September 2007 (UTC)
      • I thought I remembered something about this being done before, so yes, fire the ol' thread back up. As for the example I made, the distinction doesn't make much difference if people applying the template aren't aware of the distinction. And sometimes the distinction isn't clear just by looking - I think it was you who just recently tried to clear up the leveling on a picture (Moff Abran Balfour's, IIRC) before realizing the scan itself had been compromised. jSarek 00:07, 24 September 2007 (UTC)
  • I am closing this thread, please see the more recent Forum:Template consolidation. Greyman(Paratus) 14:52, 4 December 2007 (UTC)
