Darth Ewok Says:
I know the standard issue clones became the first gen. stormtrooper, but what happened to the commandos and the ARC's? their pages state either a defection to the Rebellion or Empire, but are there any canon sources that have examples or ex-GAR elite's joining the Alliance?
Star Wars: Battlefront II shows the entire 501st Legion becoming a part of the first generation of stormtroopers, before recruitment and cloning of other templates began. There were Galactic Marines and other specialized trooper types in the 501st, so I would assume that all types of Clone Troopers initially became Stormtroopers. But I'm sure that things had changed after the Kamino Uprising. Especially that there was a 70 year old Jango Fett Clone that was still alive and apart from the Empire in Bloodlines (and presumably Legacy of the Force: Sacrifice as well; I haven't read it yet.) That may suggest that some original Clone Troopers defected, or at least went AWOL. Darth Ammanius 04:11, 17 January 2008 (UTC)
I don't know of any source that says what happened to the ARCs and the Commandos. There are rumours of an Imperial Commando game to be made as a sequel to Republic Commando, but it's nothing official. Stake blackmsg 13:30, 22 January 2008 (UTC)
True Colors deals with the issue of defection in the ranks of the GAR, but that's pre-Empire. We don't know of any clones who joined the Rebels, except for Able. A few became Mandalorians, mostly the ones influenced by Kal Skirata. -LtNOWIS 17:16, 22 January 2008 (UTC)
So-called "reconditioning" could have been involved to some degree, particularly with the elite clones to ensure loyalty to the new regime and to eliminate any possible evolved/learned independence (like that displayed by Ion Team on Murkhana when it came to Order 66). Republic Commando mentions it specifically as a punishment if you fail a mission, just before the game is restarted at the last save point.--Goodwood(Alliance Intelligence) 01:41, 27 January 2008 (UTC)
