This is a question to all of you who know your TOR, which I, beyond what I've read here in the Wook, don't. I'd be interested to know whether the years of Bouris Ulgo's reign as the King of Alderaan given in his article (c. 3653 BBY-3641 BBY) can be sourced to the game itself, or whether they come from some other sources. I'm currently working on an article for which I would need that info, so all answers are appreciated. Cheers, Tinwe(comlink) 06:33, August 14, 2012 (UTC)
I was summoned by the words TOR. Hrmmm.... Alderaan' normal quests are little tricky, since they don't necessarily occur at the same time as the classes. However, it's a relatively reasonable assumption to say that the faction missions (which end with Ulgo losing the throne) occur around the same time, so it'd be 3643 BBY. Here's text for a reference:
Have fun with this monstrosity. :P CadeCalrayn 04:32, August 15, 2012 (UTC)
Thank you! That is indeed quite a mouthful... Thoroughness FTW! If I understood correctly, the last year of Ulgo's reign should then be 3643 BBY instead of 3641 BBY, right? And one more question: is it established in the game that Ulgo seized the throne shortly after the Treaty of Coruscant (~ 3653 BBY), or is the article mistaken and the year should be 3643 BBY instead? Did he really reign for over a decade? (I guess that was actually three questions. :P) Again, thanks for any and all answers! Tinwe(comlink) 16:39, August 15, 2012 (UTC)
3643, yes. I believe he did "reign" for over a decade, but it was contested by the other houses and only one or two houses acknowledged his rule. The codex says that Senator Gaul Panteer—the son of Queen Panteer—withdrew Alderaan from the Republic in protest of the Treaty of Coruscant, and was supposedly secretly negotiating Alderaan's return when he and then his mother were assassinated (by House Rist, as it is later revealed). Ulgo seized the throne sometime afterwards in the power vacuum, but it doesn't say exactly when. I'd go with a c. 3653 date. CadeCalrayn 17:27, August 15, 2012 (UTC)
Ugh. The more I look into this Ulgo business the hairier it seems to get... Let's see now: the Alderaan Civil War began because Crown Prince Gaul and Queen Silara Panteer both died, which created the power vacuum that allowed Ulgo to seize the throne. Our Alderaan Civil War article here suggests that the war did not, in fact, begin shortly after the signing of the Treaty of Coruscant and Alderaan's secession from the Republic, but that there was maybe even a decade-long gap between those events, placing the war around 3643 BBY. The article attributes this to the fact that the Civil War is a setting seen in TOR, and references the same forum post you gave for the date. What's more, Bouris Ulgo's swtor.com biography (which seems to be no longer online, but can be found archived here; the formatting of the page is pretty messed up, but the info is there nonetheless) stated that Gaul and the Queen died years after Alderaan was declared independent ("Ulgo stood strong while Senator Gaul Panteer, heir to the Alderaanian throne, declared the planet independent in an effort to force the Republic to make amends for signing the Treaty of Coruscant. Years later, Ulgo watched in horror as both the Crown Prince and the Queen met mysterious ends [...].") So this actually seems to bring us closer to the 3643 date for both the beginning and the end of Ulgo's reign...
I wonder now if those years between Alderaan's secession and the deaths of the Panteers have been cut during game development. It is a possibility at least, considering that the biographies were released well before the game itself and could have therefore contained info that was subject to change. So, one final question (here's hoping, anyway): Does TOR indicate that the Alderaan Civil War has been going on for a while, or does it begin in the context of the game?
