How did Anikan get the name Darth Vader? I get the Darth part but where does Vader come from?
Palpatine chose the name for him in Revenge of the Sith. In-universe, there probably isn't anything super special about it. In real life, it's a word from a language other than English that means "father". NaruHinaTalk 01:18, February 7, 2012 (UTC)
In-universe there really isn't any explanation. Out-of-universe, George Lucas just kind of sucks at picking names. Vader, Maul, Sidious, Tyranus, and the worst offender–Plagueis. George Lucas has a great many talents, but subtlety is not among them. – DigiFluid 02:23, February 7, 2012 (UTC)
Vader is a Dutch word. However, Palpatine just chose a random word that would strike fear in the hearts of his enemies. Vader shouldn't be compared to what we know of it. In the Star Wars Universe it could have an entirely different meaning and context. MaxReebo 06:34, February 8, 2012 (UTC)
