OK, this is starting to drive me crazy and I don't have time to peruse 50 books and find the answer, but, I distinctly remember a scene in one of the novels where Luke recalls visiting some museum or monument on Coruscant where the victims of the first Death Star were memorialized. There was a number that Luke instantaneously recalled as "something he'd never forget" and I believe he remembered it to shut up a recalcitrant youth. Probably Ben, might've been Zekk, I'm not sure, but the point was that some people saw Luke as one of the greatest mass murderers in history.
This should've taken place somewhere between the Thrawn trilogy and the Vong reshaping the planet, and I'm just looking for the number of people Luke killed on the Death Star, which I seem to recall being listed at just over 1 million (something like 1,031,000 and change). And I'm not looking for the 30 million or so that the spatial topographist recalculated, I'm looking for what the book said. Any response would be greatly appreciated and would keep me from temporary insanity.
I'm not sure about Luke but I seem to remember them visiting a museum while undercover in the book X-wing: book 2: 'wedges gamble'. 18.104.22.168 16:33, September 19, 2011 (UTC)
