Hi.
I've been rewatching the Star Wars Original trilogy with my parents (mostly to glean into the writing of the film as well as any agendas George Lucas may have been pushing), and I might as well ask this due to something I noticed in the films.
I know that at the very least the Legends expanded universe, if not the current Disney reboot expanded universe specifically denies that there were any deflector shields on the TIE fighters save for special cases like the Defender and the Advanced X1, but was there any indication that the TIEs lacked shields in the actual movies themselves? I'm only asking because while watching all three movies, I noticed that the TIEs seem to have a square-shaped colored silhouette when doing various maneuvers in space (or oval, if they were TIE Interceptors or TIE bombers), which seemed to imply that they either had shields, or otherwise may have been some bad movie FX, if not something George Lucas added in to the films (Bear in mind, these were the 2004 DVD releases at the earliest).
So, anyone want to answer this? Weedle McHairybug (talk) 13:56, March 17, 2017 (UTC)
- I've always understood the square outlines to be the result of the visual effects. Basically, it's the image of the TIE being superimposed on top of a matte painting, or something. I don't believe it is meant to reflect an actual in-universe effect. <-Omicron(Leave a message at the BEEP!) 15:31, March 17, 2017 (UTC)
- Okay, fair enough. It did seem slightly out of place, I must admit. Weedle McHairybug (talk) 21:26, March 18, 2017 (UTC)
