When the Galactic Empire ruled did the general population of the universe know that Vader and Palpatine were Sith, or was it only people in the Empire like Grand Moffs and such? Commander Code-8To say hi, press 42 07:49, December 9, 2012 (UTC)
The general population did not know that. They thought that Darth Vader was the last Jedi Knight and he was allowed to live because of saved the Emperor's life. Only a very small amount of people new Palpatine was a Sith let alone Force-sensitive. Kolesar975 (talk) 20:20, December 17, 2012 (UTC)
Han Solo's comments about hokey religions imply that being a force-sensitive individual wasn't all that common, or even know of, for that matter.
Well yes and no. There are several things which suggest they would have. Obviously it was quite known the Vader used the force and that the Empire employed dark side adepts as enforcers of the regime. At very least the Empire's enemies without a doubt knew this but whether people in general did is difficult say. Remember most people didn't know what the Sith actually were, most individuals were unaware that there was a difference between Jedi and Sith in the first place. The majority of the population would have known nothing about the force in the first place. We know that before the declaration of the new order that Palpatine's true identity and power was unknown to the galaxy whether this changed and people did become aware is not clear. Mostly because there'd be no reason to focus on that in a story because once Palpatine was emperor he had supreme power so it would have mattered what anyone knew. After becoming emperor he had no reason to hide at all.
People still viewed him as a tyrant so his being Sith wouldn't matter in the first place, they hated him either way. --184.108.40.206 22:57, January 29, 2013 (UTC)
