Just started reading the novel and even though it's a great read, (my first Karen Traviss book btw. An amazing writer for Star Wars!) I was a little perplexed at the black or charcoal grey armor Darman and Niner are given in the first chapter, two weeks after Order 66. It reads like it's matte black imperial stormtrooper armor, saying it was the same color as their matte black katarn plates, but there the similarities ended and everything from chestplates, greaves to helmet was just a little bit different, making them look like strangers.
Ok, so maybe I'm impatient to find out and I can tell Karen Traviss doesn't do things by halves as an author, so if this is matte black stormie armor and not the white chunky commando armor that they have previously worn and no doubt wear a close variant of later in the book, why is there no reference to the matte black stormtrooper armor anywhere in this wiki? 40 Year Old Virgin 22:09, October 6, 2011 (UTC)
First off, I really wish you would've read the books in order because it's a much stronger, complete, and more emotional story that way. Just saying. :D To answer your question, you can see on the Imperial Commando Special Unit article page what the Imperial Commando armor looked like, per their model from the Ultimate Sith Edition of The Force Unleashed. Well I do know the armor to which you are referring, as I have that game pack. I'm currently obsessed with the early imperial era. I try to find as much content as possible that covers that era. There isn't much and of course reading this particular book would be a no brainer. I'm not particularly interested in the clone wars, or rather I'm kind of over them since the series, I'm interested in imperial hardware and tech more than anything else, but I can certainly appreciate the benefit in reading the series from the start, although I am enjoying it way more than Timothy Zahn or Barbara Hambly anyway.
So anyway I doubt it's the same armor featured in TFU ultimate sith edition, which is essentially the armor featuered on the front cover, being white. That armor is practically the same katarn armor with different lenses/faceplate and different breathing gear on the chin.
No point speculating, but it was black and new and different to their pld Katarn armor. Which leads me to think imp commandos wore the first black stormtrooper armor.
The first reply about storm commandos and nightwhispers was interesting, but nothing really relating to the early days of the empire that fits the description.40 Year Old Virgin 09:21, October 7, 2011 (UTC)
