I'm sure there are a lot more I need help with, but these are the main four off the top of my head.
I prefer using the IPA, which I can generally read but not write.
For Galen, is it "GAY-lin" or "GAH-lin?"
For Tionne, interestingly, I once had a classmate whose name was spelled Tionne, and she pronounced it "tee-ON-na" like Brianna or Bianca, which surprised me. I have never heard this name anywhere else in real life, so I don't know whether it's actually an uncommon real-life name or whether it's a totally made-up name for Star Wars that my classmate just happened to have.
I doubt anyone can give an answer for Qymaen Jai Sheelal :).
Mical: is it like Michael or Mikhail or something else?
Thank you! Sol Pacificus (talk) 06:02, October 11, 2013 (UTC)
I'm fairly certain Galen is pronounced the first way you described, as *gay-lin*. It's a shame we never hear it in game, as his name is only ever mentioned in the novel. Though I'm pretty sure Tionne's name is pronounced out loud as *tee-on* in Star Wars Battlefront: Renagade Squadron, though it's been years since I've played that game, so don't hold me to that. Mical directly states his own name if you play as a male Exile and immediately return to Khoonda after rescuing him, it's said as *Mih-call*. Now, Grievous's name... I have absolutely no way to prove it, but I've always said it as *kai-mann*. Maybe it's *key-may-en* or something like that, maybe a bit in between. Sorry I can't be more helpful there, but glad to help with the first three! 126.96.36.199 03:16, November 9, 2013 (UTC)
I appreciate your input. For Galen, I always pronounced it as you suggested, and yet I somehow think that the alternative pronunciation is more probable, if only because one of my chemistry teachers back in high school had the surname "Galan," and she pronounced it as GAH-lin. Oh wait! I just looked it up on Google, and you're right, it's pronounced "GAY-lin." Huh, never thought it was a real name.
As for Tionne, yeah, I have Battlefront: Renegade Squadron too, but for some reason my game now crashes whenever it begins to play that opening cutscene where her name is pronounced :( (though it's fine with every other cutscene).
Anyways, thanks for the help! I'm really surprised that no one else replied to this post. Sol Pacificus (talk) 02:39, November 11, 2013 (UTC)
I presume you're referring to this cutscene? Anyway, the anon covered most of these in sufficient detail, excepting Grievous. Abel G. Pena, the creator of Grievous's birth name, once said on the defunct StarWars.com message boards (as archived here) "You're free to pronounce it any way you like. My personal preference is Ky-Main High She-Lall." jSarek (talk) 06:09, November 11, 2013 (UTC)
Thank you :), the Grievous one really surprised me because like I said, I really didn't expect anyone to be able to give me an answer but that's probably the best answer there is for it. Sol Pacificus (talk) 06:40, November 15, 2013 (UTC)
