So I have been reading as much of the SW Legends Canon before the post 7 new canon comes out and I am confused on the status of the sith in the eu universe. The term sith came out in the 1990's to star wars books and in episode 1 concerning palpatine and his apprentices by each other and the jedi (they didn't discover what he was until episode 3). However, after sidious was defeated as emperor was he ever exposed as a sith? In the Dark Nest trilogy Luke Skywalker mentions that the jedi and republic of his fathers time were tricked by a leader who was in fact a sith. However, in the fate of the jedi series when Tahiri Veila is on trial no one seems to know much about the sith until she describes what one is like concerning her time under darth caedus.
Also Natasi Daala makes it pretty clear that she sees (at least in the first few books) no difference between the jedi and sith (apparently so does boba fett) though later expresses concern to Jag Fel about the armada of them Luke Skywalker has discovered. Given that and the republic sith empire war do-are the citizens of the original trilogy and forward in time (legends canon) know there own galactic history about the sith? These scenarios and issues seem to confuse me on their perspective.
PS on an unrelated topic about the jedi. Palpatine had them slaughtered during order 66 due to being "traitors to the republic." Various jedi and other force sensitives help the rebel alliance and then serve the new republic as it defenders but did papatines propaganda of them and the anti sentiment just cease to be? Several wikia articles discuss imperial propaganda such as the Mace Windu one but it appears the truth is known by the new jedi order time.
