In the article on Tavion from the Jedi Knight series, she is named "Tavion Axmis". Most of the times she's mentioned by name in the article, she's simply called "Axmis", despite the fact that she didn't seem to have a surname in either Jedi Outcast or Jedi Academy.
This may or may not be the place to ask, but I have two questions: (1) How do we know about her surname? (2) Wouldn't it be smarter to refer to her less-obscure first name? When I first read the article on Jedi Outcast, I kept getting confused about who "Axmis" was. —Unsigned comment by Hagtar (talk • contribs).
- The answer to your first question is in the "behind the scenes" section of the article. As regards your second question, we always refer to a character's surnames because it sounds more encyclopedic. --LelalMekha (talk) 21:29, February 8, 2016 (UTC)
- That argument (sounding encyclopedic) sort of makes sense, but it also sounds a lot like new science students using a needlessly complicated vocabulary to sound more "science-y". It often ends up looking awkward and confusing. --Hagtar (talk) 10:51, February 17, 2016 (UTC)
- It's not confusing if you've read the article from the beginning and thus know Tavion's surname is Taxmis. Our articles are written from an in-universe perspective (except for the "Behind the scenes" section). In a real-life encyclopedia, you wouldn't casually call Roseanne Barr "Roseanne." You would use "Barr." --LelalMekha (talk) 11:21, February 17, 2016 (UTC)
