Just asking, doesn't it seem strange that after tens of thousands of years, technology in Star Wars hasn't changed very much? Like blaster guns are still prevalent way after the Great Hyperspace War and such, like in the Legacy era and stuff.
And I just struck me as odd that why do they have this amazing technology in one area and not in the other? I saw a picture of a scout on the scout (profession) page and it showed a rebel alliance scout. I am assuming that it is scouting an Empire outpost. So if the Empire could make a HUGE superlaser and destroy a planet, then why can't they make technology that can pick up on movement or heat in the distance, and then have like an auto turret fire upon it?
Just speculation, but does anyone have an answer to this? Thanks a bunch

There's little to nothing in the way of in-universe explanation, so you're unlikely to hear a solid, canonically verifiable answer.
For my part, I just think of it as a technological plateau. They've got miracle healing fluids, they can fly across the galaxy in a matter of hours, energy weapons....well, they say necessity is the mother of invention. So what else do they really need? – DigiFluid 02:56, February 12, 2012 (UTC)
