When the Death Star was approaching Alderaan, did anyone attempt an evacuation from the planet?—Unsigned comment byNkstjoa (talk • contribs).
The Death Star was approaching Alderaan faster than 186,000 miles per second, so there probably wasn't much reaction time. Fe Nite (talk) 21:49, January 3, 2014 (UTC)
It seems almost no one understood the nature of the threat the station posed when it arrived in the Alderaan system. Carlist Rieekan, inspecting a satellite over Delaya, knew what it was capable of, but thought there was no way the Empire would use the Death Star on Alderaan and thus chose not to call for an evacuation in order to keep the Alliance's knowledge of the station's capabilities a secret. Grief over the subsequent destruction of his homeworld was a driving force in his subsequent decision-making. jSarek (talk) 23:42, January 4, 2014 (UTC)
Indeed no one could have known that the battle station was going to destroy the planet. Of course not everyone on Alderaan would have been a Rebel Alliance member as well. 220.127.116.11 22:22, January 6, 2014 (UTC)
Plus did they even know it was coming. If not, once that thing drops out of hyperspace you're pretty much screwed. (Exception: Yavin IV). Fe Nite (talk) 14:57, January 7, 2014 (UTC)
