What applications is this helmet used for? And why does Han Solo keep it aboard the Falcon? Cheers. 40 Year Old Virgin 18:13, November 2, 2011 (UTC)
If I remember correctly, this is answered in either Han Solo at Stars' End, Han Solo's Revenge, or Han Solo and the Lost Legacy. It describes that he he would put his blaster on a training setting, put on the blast helmet, and practice locating and shooting the training remote by sound only. It's been a while so feel free to verify my sources, I will as well. KievanMereel 19:31, November 2, 2011 (UTC)
It may also be useful in the Quad turrets, if it's possible to peek at and use the targeting HUD below the edge of the shield. That way dangerous flashes or radiation could be protected against. DD97Which bear is best? 21:10, November 2, 2011 (UTC)
Interesting that it's identical to the rebel pilot helmet also. Must be a popular mould, as we see it in the Droids cartoon set in 15 BBY.40 Year Old Virgin 00:00, November 3, 2011 (UTC)
Well I was thinking maybe the blastshield was a feature utilised when a pilot was forced to eject. Being that the blastsheild was "down" and Luke couldn't see, would suggest it has an "up" position. Possibly up inside the helmet's casing, as it's shape alludes to that of a helmet with a slide down visor. That is my interpretation of how it appears, but it seems like a currently unknown anomaly.
