I am really confused. Why did Sifo-Dyas even commission a clone army for the Republic in the first place? And how did Dooku get involved in the army? Why was Dooku even making an army for the Republic in the first place when he was going to be fighting all of the clones with his droid army of the CIS? Did Dooku also know that Sidious wanted the Republic to win, so that is why he helped with the clones? Thanks...The Awesome X!
The Darth Plagueis novel show us that Plagueis in alter ego, Hego Damask, suggested the idea to Sifo-Dyas during a meeting. Dooku is believed to be the one that placed the order for the clone army while posing as Sifo-Dyas. Dooku wanted the Republic to fall because he could see the corruption in the senate and wanted a clean slate to start over with the Sith as its rulers.--CookieCrumb 23:46, February 20, 2012 (UTC)
When I read it, I had the very clear impression that Sifo-Dyas was indeed the one who placed the order. To the OP: Sifo-Dyas was a malcontent within the Order; he thought that the increasing squabbles and lawlessness further out from the Core was only the prelude to larger disorders. Of course he had no idea what the Sith were planning, but he was right in his own way. He voiced these concerns in a couple of chance conversations with Hego Damask (secretly Darth Plagueis), who later suggested that the Kamino cloners might be a good place to create an army without the whole of the Republic catching wind of it before the army could be ready.
Sifo-Dyas was later slain by his close friend, Dooku, as Dooku's test of loyalty to his new Sith master (Sidious). Dooku, having left the Order and effectively walked away from the Republic, took over the Kamino cloning program with a combination of his own wealth and that of the entities of the now-deceased Darth Plagueis. – DigiFluid 00:03, February 21, 2012 (UTC)
But then why did Dooku take over the cloning when he was making the CIS?!
He was Sith. The concerns of the Sith trump the petty political concerns of the 'lesser' (read: non-Force-sensitive) beings. The Confederacy was never meant to win. It was a tool to assure the Sith ascendancy to galactic dominance. – DigiFluid 02:10, February 21, 2012 (UTC)
So in that case, Dooku did know that the CIS wasn't supposed to win.....The Awesome X!
Yes. Dooku left the Jedi Order and walked away from the Republic of his own accord, before he even had a clue that Palpatine was the dark lord. He was deeply unhappy with how affairs were being run–the Republic's and the Jedi's complete inability to get anything done, the rampant corruption, etc etc. He was interested in tearing down and rebuilding the Republic long before the birth of the Confederacy and the outbreak of the Clone Wars. Once he became Sith, the CIS became a means to that end, which he had already envisioned. The only difference being that it was already part of his master's grand plan. Certainly Dooku never planned to be decapitated, and doubtlessly had his own plans for the future of the galaxy, but such are the perils of being Sith. – DigiFluid 03:05, February 21, 2012 (UTC)
