I've been talking with Toprawa and Ralltiir about the section titles of the Fleebog article. He pointed out that, according to the current layout guide, the section I've called "History and relations with the greater galaxy" should just be called "History." I said that I felt it would be more accurate to use the longer title due to the fact that two sections have been merged here. I've noticed that with several of the recent GA noms, we've been combining section titles like this (I think Eyrezer has a nom with a "Biology and culture" section or something similar).
T&R suggested we start a Consensus Track on the topic about how these combined sections should be named. I think that may be overkill (I'm always one for leaving some things to editors' judgement), but I'm still a bit mystified by Wookieepedia culture now and again. What do you guys think? CT it? Leave it be? I'm cool either way, and I'm not trying to pick a fight with T&R; I just wanted to pick the project's collective brain before we do anything more. ~ SavageBob 00:44, 8 July 2009 (UTC)
- There seem to be two separate objections here (Graestan has left an objection to Worrite you may not yet have noticed). Tope is objecting to the merging of the titles into one, whereas Grae is objecting to any sections other than the "X in the galaxy" being merged together.
- For the first, it is probably easier just to change it to "History", although I am surprised that he wants the titles in our guidelines adhered to so strictly. I think I've used your combined section header in some of my noms too. Likewise, with the second objection, to me the LG suggests merging other sections is fine when there is little information, both when it says "ideally" there should be these four sections, and by using the words "this section in particular may be incorporated into the earlier sections". It may be more the case that merging three sections into one is causing the problem. You could try asking whether moving the two lines on Worrite language ability to the Biology section, and then renaming it "Biology and culture" would be sufficient. --Eyrezer 02:48, 8 July 2009 (UTC)
- For the record, I don't care how you name your sections, if you combine them or not, as long as they adhere to the Layout Guide the Wookieepedia community has agreed upon for how we format our articles. This is why we have the Layout Guide. If you would like to create new section titles for the sake of short articles in the scope of your project, there needs to be a community agreement to change this established Layout Guide. These are the rules of FAN and GAN. Toprawa and Ralltiir 03:13, 8 July 2009 (UTC)
- I disagree with Toprawa. Sometimes the layout guide can be either unmanageable or a burder. I am fine following the guide, and I rarely would nominate something that I cannot fit to it, but still: I understand it as a guide and a policy, not as a law. The Wiki concept trusts the editors' judgement to some extent. I wouldn't take this to the CT but, should that be reached, I'd vote "leave it be". --Skippy Farlstendoiro 06:24, 8 July 2009 (UTC)
