I'm just asking, but did some linux (or so) folks take time to make a fortune file from Wookieepedia ? I think it would be great to have some sentences about Star Wars world while opening a bash shell :) CoolCubix 22:54, 19 April 2007 (UTC)

  • What's that? A question about a technical aspect of the site, in conjunction with the functioning of Free software? Oh, Sikon! There's someone here to see you! ;-) jSarek 09:19, 20 April 2007 (UTC)
    • I don't understand how we can possibly create a fortune file from Wookieepedia. From QOTD, probably. From QDB, consider it done. But from an encyclopedia? - Sikon 13:19, 20 April 2007 (UTC)
      • I think everyone here on Wookieepedia has still something to learn about SW world. We could just take little parts of some articles (which are interesting and learn something either very known, either completely unknown) and compact them in a fortune file. As an example we could take a small paragraph of Coruscant : Coruscant also orbited relatively far from its tiny star Coruscant Prime, ranging from 207 million to 251 million km. Thus, Coruscant did not naturally have a climate suitable for Humans. Coruscant's Humans countered this by erecting a series of orbital mirrors that reflected the sun's warmth and light. Several of these mirrors would be destroyed in the Battle of Coruscant during the Clone Wars, although it is unknown whether this had any lasting effect. The main objective IMHO is to learn something. It could be an easy way to get started into Star Wars world/history/characters/locations/... Do you see what I mean ? • I suppose we can include featured article blurbs in such a file, but learning facts is not really what fortunes are for. - Sikon 15:58, 20 April 2007 (UTC)
          • Hmmm... You're right. I though anyway, with a sufficient amount of quote resources, it could provide a way, for a few seconds, to escape an user from his big nasty world. Fortunes are made to relax an user, aren't they ? By making him laugh, yes, but maybe also by making him discover one more thing about his favorite sci-fi world :) CoolCubix 17:40, 20 April 2007 (UTC)
            • I could definitely see some sweet quotes working. Bits of interesting information from articles might work too. Random factoids -- short, amusing stories, concise intro paragraphs to interesting characters, etc. "Did you know" style summaries of information tidbits. Havac 20:34, 20 April 2007 (UTC)
              • You got it. So, are there any people interested ? Note that a fortune file could be easily ported to another format, usable on Windows, or by a Wookieepedia script which could display one of theses quotes on the Main page, for example. CoolCubix 11:46, 21 April 2007 (UTC)
