If I'm not mistaken, profanity and foul language is strictly forbidden on Wookieepedia. If this is so, how come some Administrators get away with the use of profanity and foul language on there profiles, and, to a certain extent, on forums and talk pages?--Redstarbird MadMarek (Force Box) - "We speak, we learn, thats what we're for" 12:24, December 23, 2013 (UTC)

  • You are mistaken. Profanity is fine as long as it's not a personal attack. Green Tentacle (Talk) 12:31, December 23, 2013 (UTC)
    • Oh, I see, thank you.--Redstarbird MadMarek (Force Box) - "We speak, we learn, thats what we're for" 12:35, December 23, 2013 (UTC)
  • So to confirm, general profanity is completely fine on Wookieepedia? Why do people get threatened with bans for saying "what the f*ck" then? MasterCheif97 (talk) 21:06, December 26, 2013 (UTC)
    • General profanity is acceptable. Directing profanity at another user or users is in violation of our Civility policy and is grounds for punitive action. Toprawa and Ralltiir (talk) 21:14, December 26, 2013 (UTC)
      • I understand. But was he directing his profanity at another user or was he just saying "what the f*ck?" If he had said "what the hell" instead, would he face the same judgment? This is why I think Wookieepedia needs better defined rules for censorship. MasterCheif97 (talk) 22:20, December 26, 2013 (UTC)
        • I don't think our Civility rules need to be any more specific than they already are, and the spirit behind them is indisputable: Don't be a dick to people, and watch your language. We don't need to micromanage exactly how and when to use profanity in discussion with other users. If you can't tell when profanity is acceptable, then I would suggest cutting it out from your posts on this wiki altogether to be on the safe side. To bring this discussion back to the original question, administrators are not abusing their privileges with this, so this thread is effectively finished. If you would like to suggest revisions to a policy, please use the Senate Hall. Toprawa and Ralltiir (talk) 22:36, December 26, 2013 (UTC)
