I'm seeking admin opinions on this discussion that I've been having with another user regarding the signature policy (also see the original post on his talk page). Essentially, I'm interpreting the term "signature" to include anything consistently typed manually in front of the ~~~~ (such as the
that he uses), thus making it subject to the requirements of the signature policy (which prohibits line breaks). He disagrees, and the signature policy does not clearly say either way, so it's a gray area.

Who is interpreting things correctly here? Or do we need a CT discussion to clarify it? —MJ— Training Room Wednesday, June 6, 2012, 01:09 UTC

  • Oh, for crying out loud... If it's not the content of the message, and it comes at the end, it's the signature. Do we really need a CT for what should be common goddamn sense? -- Darth Culator (Talk) 01:31, June 6, 2012 (UTC)
    • That's what I thought. Thanks for the clarification. —MJ— Comlink Wednesday, June 6, 2012, 03:09 UTC
      • To be honest, I see no reason why we should disallow adding a line break after the end of your prose. Some consider it a good way to end a message to add a line break (as you usually do in letters. I don't see any reason why we can't allow users to have a line break at the end (preferably with
in bullet point conversations etc.). It's not really a big deal, but I don't really see any reason to prohibit this. If anything, a line break makes the text more easily readable. 1358 (Talk) 15:17, June 11, 2012 (UTC)
        • Overcomplicated signatures are stupid and wrong. And WP:SIG says so. -- Darth Culator (Talk) 16:43, June 11, 2012 (UTC)
