Hi all, I have signed up to the site today, having met some of you at CVI. I am keen to get involved in helping keep up to date details on the comics and books which is my collecting area.
I have a lot to learn, as am not a tech savy guy - but am enthusiastic.
To cut a long story short, my question is regarding variant issues on the comics. I note that these are not detailed in the comics. Is this a conscious decision, or is this an area that I can help expand on.
Secondly, Would it be further appropriate to keep a real world list of variant issues? —Unsigned comment byBrian.jedialba (talk • contribs).
Hey! Welcome to the site. Good to see someone sign up after seeing our Celebration VI booth. :) I'm not sure what you mean by comic variants --- do you mean comics with variant covers? We usually keep track of those in a "Cover gallery" section, such as here. Also, a handy editing tip: Remember to always sign posts with four tildes, like so: ~~~~ Cheers! Hi, yes I mean variant covers. I see the example you have given. There are some missing then, I could add to these then. Thanks for the signature tip, I will slowly learn!!! 188.8.131.52 11:02, October 9, 2012 (UTC)
Or maybe i won't learn, and this time login! I got to spend a lot of time in the Jundland Wastes learning before i start destorying!!! Brian.jedialba (talk) 11:05, October 9, 2012 (UTC)
Going back to my original post of variants, I think it could be useful to have the details of the comics, a publishing history if you like. Some text detailing the publication of variants, especially as we are now seeing more second edition and third edition issues with variant covers. Your example of Dawn of the Jedi actually fits this example. I don't see a need for much text, just a sentence or two. I think it can actually be confusing to see the different images on each comic, without a little background. It's OK in 2012 just now, as we can recall, but in 2020 we may forget. Further by variants I don't just mean two alternative covers on launch, I also mean for example Dynamic foil covers, or Tate comics variant issues etc. I am happy to defer this to the more experienced posters for consideration. Some sentences detailing the comics' publication history, including variant-cover releases, would absolutely be helpful. Good idea, and definitely feel free to add that kind of info. Menkooroo (talk) 11:45, October 9, 2012 (UTC)
Great to see someone that found us at CVI signed up! I was one of the people helping run the table, so you might have spoken to me. Anyway, if you're interested in improving the articles on stories and sources, that would be a huge help. The vast majority of such articles (really, just about all out-of-universe articles) are severely neglected, so any help in that area would be greatly appreciated. I hope you enjoy your time here, and if you need any help, don't be afraid to ask. —MJ—HolocommTuesday, October 9, 2012, 17:20 UTC
