Today, I talked with Ivan Askwith and Matt Martin, both representing StarWars.com, and how Wookieepedia factors into the relationship that we currently possess with them. They sought me out as a co-founder and so wanted my perspective on this relationship. It appears their intentions are to allow both sites the attention that they need, as it has become obvious that nearly everyone at Lucasfilm has heard of us by now. I will try to break down the main points that we covered.
After 26 minutes on the phone with Ivan and Matt, we discussed the following:
- They would like to see us provide a guest blog on StarWars.com, with myself adding one or two directly being that I was a co-founder. This would be consistent with their approach in having Albin Johnson of the 501st blog, and other notables within Lucasfilm. I also recommended a few other editors that have been with the wiki for some time that may provide a more comprehensive assessment of things within fandom.
- I mentioned that we have the Wordpress account, which might benefit from a spotlight by SW.com. This may also duplicate as our guest blog.
- I mentioned that we have the Facebook fan page (that I currently run) and the Newsnet Twitter, which they indicated they may have StarWars.com "like" or "follow".
- I mentioned that we have a table at Celebration VI, which they noted they may be able to help us out with internet (WIN!) and would like to communicate with those running the table. This means you, Trak and Jonathan.
- They would like to make sure all our links to their site and back to Wookieepedia match, in cases of broken pages and moved sections of the site since the last redesign.
- I made sure to note that any official changes involving us would need to go through the community via Consensus Track, as they admitted it was informal of them to simply link to us from TOS without notifying us back in 2011.
Overall it appears that things are stepping in a positive direction with TOS, but I can't promise that anyone will bring back Visual Guides.
Please feel free to comment. -- Riffsyphon1024 19:36, July 25, 2012 (UTC)
- Thx Steven ! You did ask about the Visual Guides :p --Sompeetalay (talk) 19:40, July 25, 2012 (UTC)
- Actually I didn't ask about those directly, as that's more of a Pablo question. -- Riffsyphon1024 19:41, July 25, 2012 (UTC)
- This is awesome. I love the idea of a guest blog. Regarding our wordpress account potentially doubling as it --- would entries have to be approved by someone at sw.com, or would we continue to be free to write for it as we please? Things like Wookieepedian of the Month and FA machine interviews are great for our site, but I don't know if sw.com would consider them notable. I'd hate to see them go, though. - Being a detailist, I'd imagine we just continue to write for Wordpress as we would, but then give an overview of things over at SW.com. -- Riffsyphon1024 19:51, July 25, 2012 (UTC)
- Good stuff. Some articles, like Wookieepedia's Wackiest, might be good candidates for sw.com, if no one minds a little horn-tooting. ;) And I'd of course be interested in contributing the blog if you want me. Menkooroo (talk) 20:43, July 25, 2012 (UTC)

- Excellent stuff. I would interested in contributing to any blog feature if they want volunteers. I've had a few ideas for the Wordpress site on the backburner about what it means to be a Wookieepedian and like. Also, Riff, I run the Twitter account and there is always room for SW.com-related retweets and the like. - Cavalier One

- Regarding CVI stuff, give them the email address on my Facebook profile (I won't post it publicly where spambots can find it). They can contact me directly through that, and phone numbers can then be exchanged with them via email if necessary. —MJ— Holocomm Wednesday, July 25, 2012, 20:34 UTC
- Looks like the start of a beautiful relationship, hopefully.—Jedi Kasra ("Indeed.") 20:56, July 25, 2012 (UTC)

- As I mentioned on FB about the CVI stuff, feel free to give them my contact information, as well. Through e-mail, I can also exchange phone numbers, if needed. Not sure what all I can bring to the table, since MJ's doing most of the hard work and I'm just following behind, spackling any little cracks. Trak Nar Ramble on 02:52, July 26, 2012 (UTC)
