Fandom is going to be producing a featured wiki video for Wookieepedia called "Who are the Whills?" Obviously we don't have an exact answer to that question but, particularly in canon, we are hearing a lot more about the Whills as a result of Rogue One and the Guardians of the Whills. So this video will trace the origins of the concept of the Whills to the first draft of A New Hope and then talk about what we know of the Whills so far. This includes references in the Episode III novelization, not just purely canonical references. Subjects that could be covered include:

There may be others that I missed, but that's where everyone else comes in. This video is going to be written collaboratively by the community, should you wish to participate. We'll write the script for the video, which ideally should be around or less than 2 minutes long.

Before we actually get to writing it, we should first narrow down what we want to talk about. Put yourself in the position of a casual viewer. If you heard about the Whills, particularly the Journal of the Whills which is making the rounds due to fan speculation over the books in The Last Jedi trailer, what would you want to know about the most? What angle is most interesting to you? What subjects should be covered?

Let's discuss that and then we'll be able to make an outline for the video. - Brandon Rhea(talk) 19:59, May 7, 2017 (UTC)

DiscussionEdit

  • I think the video could explain what the Whills are by explaining what they aren't, comparing/contrasting the philosophies of the Whills and the Jedi Order. It could also mention Qui-Gon's encounter with the Shaman and how Chirrut differs from a Jedi. The video should also discuss Lucas' initial vision of the Whills, and speculate on how that concept might be used in the future. - Cwedin(talk) 21:20, May 7, 2017 (UTC)
    • "How Star Wars Conquered the Universe" is an important book for background info. I think it's important to outline as much background info as possible and not just canon/legends content. If we want this video to be an important part of the wiki, then perhaps there should be very little 'speculations' in it. New stories make speculation videos irrelevant. Instead of speculations, simply outlining potential connections would be more effective imho. If people get background info, story info, list of what they are and what they aren't, and small list of possible connections, then the viewers can make their own elaborate speculations and discussions. From my perspective, for this video to be successful within Fandom, it should generate wiki exploration and posts within the /d Discussion forums. For a video to be super successful, it will bring in people from outside of Fandom.--ChristopherLeeGallant (talk) 20:02, May 14, 2017 (UTC)
