In the month of November, I wondered whether it would be acceptable to use pictures of Adrian Dunbar in costume taken from his deleted scene of Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace to illustrate Bail Antilles' article. Although Dunbar was meant to play Bail Organa in the first place, his likeness was later retconned to being Antilles on the HoloNet News tie-in website.
In a defunct StarWars.com weblog, Leland Chee stated : "During production, references to Bail Organa in the script were changed to Bail Antilles." (Emphasis mine.) If I understand correctly, that means Dunbar's character had become Bail Antilles rather than Organa even before the completion and release of the movie. In other words, any depiction of Dunbar in costume would be Bail Antilles himself.
However, the scene from which I took the pictures was not only deleted, but also erased from continuity : in the novelization of TPM, it's Edcel Bar Gane of Roona who voices his support, and not any Alderaanian delegate.
While reviewing the article for the FAnom, Hanzo Hasashi raised an interesting issue. Hanzo didn't think that photos from that particular deleted scene should be included in any in-universe parts of the article. We both wondered if we should start a CT, but I wasn't too sure how it should be formulated. Therefore, I started a regular SH thread instead, and we may move to CT later on if that's necessary.
My rationale is that the pictures I took are not so much about using the scene itself as about using Dunbar's likeness, which was confirmed to be that of Antilles in no less than three sources. The pictures in question are as neutral as possible, and while the scene from which they were taken is now non-canon, the characters and places seen in the pics are fully canonical.
I think this matter must be brought to community discussion, especially when it was raised in a FA nomination. --LelalMekha (talk) 18:37, January 18, 2013 (UTC)
I don't see why the images can't be used, I mean we use promotional images of characters all the time, even though there hasn't been a canonical moment where they had a picture taken of them. Commander Code-8To say hi, press 42 23:09, January 20, 2013 (UTC)
