I propose a change to the general rules for images on Wookieepedia to include screenshots, and other similar images to be uploaded in PNG format. Lately, myself and the user JMAS have been replacing JPG screenshots and the like with PNG's. I believe that uploading and/or converting pictures to PNG only has benefits. Since most pictures here are used as thumbnails, a picture in PNG doesn't show any artifacts when resized due to its lossless nature, and taking a screenshot as PNG makes it free of macroblocking, unless it's inherent to the source. And by making it a general rule, it would be easier to replace pictures whenever a better version is available, instead of having to create a new page.
Comparison (JPG vs PNG):

While the improved quality of the PNG images is clearly evident, I highly doubt any vote to change the official image policy would pass (should it ever come to a vote). - JMASHey, it's me! 18:53, November 19, 2012 (UTC)
My point was to encourage users to upload screenshots and edited pictures in PNG whenever possible. It would certainly make the replacement process easier from the get go. Alexrd (talk) 20:17, November 19, 2012 (UTC)
Oh, I heartily agree. Perhaps just a blurb on the file upload page and the Wookieepedia:Images page that states that PNG is the preferred format, as it creates the best quality thumbnails, whereas it currently states to use JPG for screenshots. - JMASHey, it's me! 03:38, November 21, 2012 (UTC)
My Mac takes screenshots in PNG anyway, so all my uploads here recently have been PNG. MasterFred(Whatever) 06:37, November 21, 2012 (UTC)
