Way, waaaaayyyy to early for this discussion. —MJ— Training Room 04:24, January 16, 2014 (UTC)
With Disney's new announcement of throwing out most of the Expanded Universe and establishing a "canon committee", how would existing topics which no longer fall into "official canon" be handled here on Wookieepedia? Maybe a new class of canon should be created (such as 'M-canon' for "mouse"—'D-canon' is already taken) to account for Disney's spin on Star Wars.
While it can be argued that the new trilogy could be made to fall under 'G-canon' or 'C-canon', since Disney plans on combining the storyline of all subsequent official works into the same continuity and officially disposing of the middle ground, this might make determining the inclusion of previously-official-but-no-longer-canonical works on Wookieepedia difficult to manage. (Demoting much of C-canon to S-canon would alienate decades of E.U. literature and previously-official works, not to mention create other major problems that tend to arise out of heirarchical oversimplification.) A new canon is one way to address this issue. Of course, this would probably have to be Leland Chee's decision over at the Holocron Continuity Database, not one of the Wookieepedia community at large, although the community could probably weigh in.

- First off, we shouldn't jump to conclusions. No one has stated that "most of the Expanded Universe" is being "[thrown] out." Rather, they are working to determine what will stay and what will go. If the past is any indicator, they will keep almost everything; ironing out continuity tangles has been the job of guys like Leland Chee, Pablo Hidalgo, Dan Wallace, and Jason Fry for years now. Second, it's a bit premature to try to decide how we'll handle the canon reshuffle that comes about. I think it's best for us to wait until we have firmer details about how extensive this change is likely to be. Then we can hammer out a policy for how to treat stuff that has been jettisoned from the official continuity. ~Savage 12:04, January 14, 2014 (UTC)
