Per this CT, the Discussions footer is now enabled on Wookieepedia articles. For those if you in Monobook, you can see this by going to a mainspace article with ?useskin=wikia at the end of the URL. The footer is at the bottom of the page.
On the Fandom end, we're also going to flip the switch that will add Discussions into the default skin's wiki navigation. That would go into the "On the Wiki" tab. When we enabled it on another wiki, though, we noticed that the custom "New files on this wiki" link reverts to the default, which is "New photos on this wiki." That was changed by Darth Culator using MediaWiki:Wikianewfiles-title in 2010, after the introduction of the default skin. I seem to recall the reasoning being that 'photos' seemed too social, so 'files' was Wookieepedia's preference.
This change would override that. Does anyone care if it says Photos instead of Files? Because we have two options here after Discussions is added to the nav:
It changes to "New photos on this wiki" and we do nothing to change it back.
I (or someone) finds some CSS or JS to change it back to "files," since the MediaWiki message doesn't work anymore.
Can someone estimate the difficulty of coding option 2? If it can be done in 10–20 minutes, I think it's worth it. If it would take several hours and lots of banging one's head against the wall, probably not. Asithol (talk) 20:58, October 26, 2016 (UTC)
Definitely option 2. It doesn't sound very hard to implement technically although I'd have to defer to someone who knows JS. 1358(Talk) 18:47, November 1, 2016 (UTC)
Option 2 is preferable, assuming that changing it isn't going to be more trouble than it's worth. - AV-6R7Crew Pit 19:02, November 1, 2016 (UTC)
Option 1 bothers me from the standpoint that "photos" is not Wookieepedia nomenclature. We use the term "images." The link takes you to Special:Images. I think "files" is even too broad of a term, since technically that's referring to everything from images to audio files, which is not the purpose of Special:Images. If we were to jury-rig a change along the lines of Option 2, I'd prefer "images" over "files" in the interest of accuracy. Toprawa and Ralltiir (talk) 18:43, November 2, 2016 (UTC)
